Adobe News: Firefly Brings AI-Powered Images and Video Creation to Your Fingertips

In excellent Adobe news for creatives, the multinational computer software company has officially launched its Firefly mobile app – bringing the full force of generative AI image and video tools to iOS and Android. Now available to download, the new app lets creators ideate, generate and edit from anywhere, whether they’re sketching out social content on a café break or storyboarding a brand campaign from a plane seat.

The mobile debut of Adobe Firefly marks a major expansion of the company’s AI-driven creative ecosystem. It’s more than just a smart editing app — it’s a pocket-sized production studio that syncs seamlessly with Adobe’s Creative Cloud apps like Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere Pro. That means a creator can spark an idea on their phone, finesse it later on their laptop, and take it to final delivery. All within a single ecosystem.

Create on the go with Firefly

Firefly’s new mobile app empowers users to generate images and videos from simple text prompts, edit visuals with intuitive tools like Generative Fill and Generative Expand, and even turn images into videos — all from the palm of their hand. Thanks to AI model integrations from the likes of OpenAI, Google, Black Forest Labs, and now Ideogram, Luma AI, Pika and Runway, creators can experiment across styles and media types with unprecedented freedom.

Whether you want to tweak typography, erase photobombers, expand your artboard or completely reimagine a landscape, Firefly offers professional-level tools powered by Adobe’s family of generative models. For creators craving even more control, beta tools like Scene to Image and Structure Reference open up new realms of visual storytelling.

Firefly boards: A new way to mood board

Alongside the mobile rollout, Adobe is also introducing Firefly Boards – a collaborative, AI-first mood boarding experience available in public beta via the web. It’s designed to transform the way creative teams ideate and iterate together. With support for video as well as images, users can remix clips, generate new footage using AI, and swap aesthetic styles in real-time.

Firefly Boards leverages models from a diverse mix of partners including Google’s Imagen and Veo, Pika 2.2, Luma AI’s Ray2, and Adobe’s own Firefly Video Model – the industry’s first commercially safe text-to-video model. The result? Faster brainstorming, richer inspiration, and a more fluid path from concept to production.

Creative cloud updates boost speed and precision

The launch coincides with a wider Creative Cloud update designed to help creators move from idea to execution faster than ever. In Lightroom, new Quick Actions and AI-powered tools like Reflection Removal and Generative Remove offer one-click solutions for tricky photo edits. In Photoshop, cloud processing enhances tools like Select Subject and Remove Background, making fine detail work more accurate and less time-consuming.

Illustrator gets a boost too, with Generative Expand letting users resize vector graphics beyond their original dimensions while keeping full editability. Plus, performance upgrades now make the app up to five times faster in rendering effects and handling complex strokes.

Trust and transparency

In keeping with Adobe’s commitment to responsible AI use, Firefly content is automatically tagged with Content Credentials. These digital labels clearly show whether Adobe’s models or those from partner platforms generated the content—a crucial step in protecting creative rights in the age of generative media.

Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s CTO, says the goal is clear. “Our aim with Firefly is to deliver creators the most comprehensive destination on web and mobile to access the best generative models from across the industry, in a single integrated experience from ideation to generation and editing.”

Firefly is now available on both the App Store and Google Play. Firefly Boards is accessible in beta via the Firefly web app. Adobe includes both as part of its Creative Cloud Pro plans, offering integrated workflows for pros, hobbyists, and creative teams alike.

With over 24 billion assets already created using Firefly models – and that number set to skyrocket – it’s safe to say that Adobe is putting the “fire” in creativity.
