Great news for female students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)  – Broadspectrum Group, Australia, has announced an annual scholarship program kicking off in 2018.

The company recently signed sponsorship agreements with Monash University and the University of Technology Sydney. The agreements stipulated the inclusion of a yearly scholarship program from 2018.

Supporting the company’s diversity and inclusion agenda, Angelique Nesbitt, Broadspectrum Group Executive Legal and Governance head said: “This initiative aims to support women studying in fields where they are currently underrepresented.

“We are proud to have increased our female participation by five per cent in the last 5 years, taking the female participation in our organisation five to ten per cent higher than similar industries, and we are increasingly looking at ways we can facilitate greater gender equality in the workforce.”

In addition to these scholarships, the Broadspectrum executive team announced its plan to continue to stand on their strong emphasis on hiring and retaining talented women in the organisation.

Maritza Messina, UTS’s Business Relationships Manager and Head of Faculty of Engineering and IT said: “I am delighted to welcome Broadspectrum to our scholarship program which encourages more young women to study STEM subjects and gain access to opportunities for careers in exciting new fields.” She is also very pleased these scholarships support individual students and have hugely contributed to the Women in Engineering and Information Technology Program (WiEIT) which aims to increase diversity in the workplace.

Broadspectrum’s success towards a more inclusive culture includes:

  • #SpectrumGrad program that has a 50/50 gender mix in its intake, and was recently crowned as the Best Graduate Development Program at Australian HR Awards 2017
  • sponsorship of Chief Executive Women, and the participation of our female leaders for the past three years in its annual program
  • increased uptake of flexible work practices in line with the company’s Flexibility Policy, and
  • a formal mentoring program that encourages the succession of women to senior roles in the organisation.

Women Love Tech would like to congratulate Broadspectrum for demonstrating such a range of fabulous initiatives.
