Are you growing tired of free-to-air television programs? Or maybe you are sick of watching so many commercials between your favourite series? There is an alternative: streaming TV movies. Here’s my guide on how to select the perfect Australian streaming TV movie services.

First, let’s explain what is streaming. It is watching a movie or a TV show on the Internet via your computer, tablet or smartphone. But with so many services out there, how do you know which one is legal in Australia to subscribe to?

Whether you’re a movie buff or a TV junkie to help you find the service that best suits your needs here are my picks.

YouTube

Content: YouTube hosts just about everything that isn’t porn. Sure, there’s a lot of junk and downright weird stuff on here, but the site also boasts a healthy library of both free and paid-for movies.

Price: YouTube is mostly free, but if you use the site’s video on demand service, you can expect to pay anywhere from $0.99 to $3.99 for each flick you rent. You can also purchase movies from YouTube and have access to them forever.

Availability: Absolutely everywhere. If it has a color display and can connect to the Internet, chances are good that it can play YouTube videos.

iTunes

Content: iTunes has a solid selection of titles for purchase, including most current TV shows and a good selection of new releases.

Price: TV show rentals are $0.99 and movie rentals start at $2.99. TV show rentals are 48 hours, movies are 24 hours. Most content can also be purchased.

Availability: You need to create a free iTunes account, if you have a PC you will need to install iTunes free software.

Fetch TV

Content: You can record your favourite shows and series. Plus over 1700 movies available to rent including the latest new releases.

Price: Fetch TV box starts from $10 a month.

Availability: You can get Fetch TV direct from iiNet, Optus and more. To do this you will need a box to plug it into your TV. With the Fetch TV app, you can enjoy your movies on your phone and tablet. https://www.fetchtv.com.au/

QuickFlix

Content: An unlimited DVD and Blu-Ray rentals delivered to you and unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows to your devices such as TV, Xbox and PlayStation.

Price: Free 3 week trial and after $24.99 a month.

Availability: No strings attached. There are no contracts, late fees or postage fees. https://www.quickflix.com.au/

MUBI

Content: Perfect for cult, arty and black and white movies. This movie streaming service is for the Sony PlayStation Network.

Price: You can try MUBI for free and watch a great film each day for $4.99 per month.

Availability: People with a PlayStation can subscribe monthly. https://mubi.com/

Google Play

Content: You can have access to movie trailers before renting or buying, reviews, similar movies and additional information (language, rental periods, casting, run time and rating).

Price: Rent from $1.99 or buy from $5.99

Availability: Anyone can watch the movies on most Android devices and compatible Tv’s. https://play.google.com/store

Enjoy the movie or TV of your choice to watch on your own terms and don’t forget the popcorn.
