There are so many fabulous things about wearing a Fitbit. For starters, it makes you realise that you’re not quite as unfit as you imagined.
I easily clocked up 13,000 steps on a day I was working from home, doing three lots of school pickups and drop offs, two visits to the supermarket, lots of housework and a short walk with the dog.
It also taught me that on the days I work from the office, I need to get up and walk around when I’m reminded to.
The latest Fitbit in town is the Fitbit Charge 2, a great looking wearable fitness tracker that’s so easy to use.
I love the sleep and heart rate tracking that adds such an interesting extra touch to the exercise tracking.
Fitstar Personal Trainer
The app helps you maintain your fitness anytime, anywhere, whether at home or on the go. It’s all really simple to follow, as it has adaptive video workouts that evolve as you progress. Even for somebody as seemingly unfit as me, it’s a nice but gentle push in the right direction.
Get fit and healthy with the latest Fitbit is the Fitbit Charge 2Also, the Fitstar app uses your own feedback to ensure each routine is built to match your fitness level, and personalised to your strength and stamina. In other words, if you’ve been having a bad day and can’t face any more exercise, you can easily adjust the routine. If you’ve got a Fitbit already, you can just download the Fitstar app. If you don’t have a Fitbit and have a desire to get fit, I’d highly recommend it, as it really is life changing in many ways.
Let’s take a look at my favourite Fitbit, the Charge 2.
Design-wise the Charge 2 has a bigger screen than the Charge HR. The screen is an OLED display, and a touchscreen which is very easy to read. A button on the side can be pressed to show your heart rate, calories and steps. The band is elastomer which feels like rubber and is nice and soft on the wrist. You’re encouraged to sleep with your Fitbit but I’ve never liked sleeping with watches so I wasn’t keen to wear it to bed. If you want to, the Charge 2 will monitor your sleeping patterns. For me, it was a case of ‘I don’t want to know’ as my sleep is always disrupted by one of three kids, the dog or the possums in the roof. But it’s good to know that feature is there.
Unlike the Fitbit Flex 2, the Charge 2 isn’t water proof so you won’t be wearing it in the shower or in the surf (it is water resistant though during a storm I quickly removed it just in case it was damaged. The Fitbit Charge 2 monitors your step count throughout the day – 10,000 steps being the optimum number to reach. The great thing about knowing that is that if you get to the end of the day and see you’ve reached 8,000 steps, you feel like you ‘have to’ make the 10,000 mark so for this dog lover, I’d just grab my hound and take him for the third walk of the day. He couldn’t believe his luck. Either way, you can always adjust the 10,000 step goal to whatever number is more realistic for you.
I really like the new heart rate zone feature which simply shows you your heart rate.
It’s pretty amazing that it can read your heart beat as you’re moving around, whether you’re hanging up the washing or walking around the supermarket.
I was impressed with the Guided Breathing feature; it tracks your heart rate for 30 seconds and then it sets a breathing challenge for you. This was such a nice surprise as I always thought Fitbits were only about exercising. These days, apart from bedtime, my Fitbit is pretty much glued to my wrist and that’s a good thing.
