How To Create Attainable Blog Goals

People create blogs for a range of different reasons, but before you start a blog it’s always a good idea to set some time aside to work out your blog goals.

In the beginning, you’ll want to create an overarching 1-year goal that is based on the SMART framework. A SMART goal is specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound. This goal can then be broken down into quarterly, monthly and then weekly goals depending on how often you’ll be blogging.

Here are some example blog goals:

Blog Goal: To Create a Portfolio of work

  • To create 10 web pages showcasing work I have completed for 10 clients within a year.
  • Add an informative About webpage and a contact webpage.

Blog Goal: To make money or generate income for a business

  • To generate enough traffic on the website and follower numbers on social media to meet the advertiser’s minimum requirements within a year.
  • To set up advertising, sponsored posts and affiliate marketing to generate X dollars each month.
  • To set up an online shop or an eLearning course to generate X dollars each month.

Blog Goal: To build your email newsletter

  • To have X subscribers to your email newsletters within a year, with an open rate of over X%.

Blog Goal: Hobby

  • To write 1 article every month with at least 300 words about my hobby within a year.

Blog Goal: A journal – travel journal or passage of time

  • To document my gap year in England with at least one article each fortnight
  • To keep my family and friends back home informed of my adventures.
  • To illustrate the articles with selfies and personal photos.

Blog Goal: To follow a personal challenge

  • To write 1 article every week/fortnight with at least 300 words about my challenge within a year.

Blog Goal: To write and express yourself

  • To write 52 articles with at least 500 words about my chosen topic within a year.
  • These articles can be compiled and edited into an eBook or novel.
