From glowing coastlines to desert classrooms, this year’s Human Connection Awards shone a spotlight on the deeply moving, often unseen relationships between people and the world around them. Created to celebrate visual storytelling that bridges emotion, culture, and the environment, the awards received thousands of submissions from across the globe.
This year’s theme—People and Planet—drew in photographers whose work explores our fragile connections to each other and to the natural world. And while each image told a story of its own, ten stood out for their emotional power, visual brilliance, and unshakable resonance.
Top Prize Winner: Zhang Xiang
Award: People and Planet Ocean
The top honour went to Chinese photographer Zhang Xiang, whose image of a fisherman walking through shallow water beneath a glowing sunset captivated the jury and audiences alike. Taken on a remote Chinese beach, the photo radiates warmth and nostalgia, with golden light casting a dreamlike shimmer over the water. At its centre, a traditional fisherman, silhouetted in soft amber, quietly continues his work—a moving reflection on tradition, solitude, and humanity’s bond with the sea.
The judges praised the image for its “poetic simplicity and layered storytelling,” calling it “a masterpiece of light, culture, and connection.”
