Being vegetarian and eco friendly is the right lifestyle choice for lots of us. Stacey created an entertaining and informative blog around vegetables, tea, babies and crochet, called Veggie Mama. As a vegan, I like browsing her successful website to find some recipes.

Here is my interview with Veggie Mam, a vegan blogger, discussing technology and apps. Super Mama, Vegan & Blogger

Can you give us a little background on career to date?

I have done all sorts of things but finally settled on a career writing online. I finished a degree in journalism and was the editor of a small newspaper for a while, but online was where I wanted to be. I launched my blog and freelance writing career as I was teaching online journalism and media law at university and having two very cute little babies very close together.

Tell us how Veggie Mama came to be

I started Veggie Mama when I was looking for a more flexible career than working in a 24-hour news environment. Something that meant I could be home with my children and didn’t have to work through public holidays or weekends. I thought a blog might be useful as a portfolio of my food writing, as I wanted to break into that market. That idea lasted about ten minutes, but the blog has stayed on.

What makes you aim your blog at women?

That was accidental, but I suppose natural progression. It was initially about food, and vegetarian food at that. I’m not fussed about which gender reads the website – I hope they all do!

The content attacts mostly female readers, perhaps because they do a lot of the cooking and looking for recipes online. Then I started talking about motherhood when I had my children, so I guess that draws more girls than boys in. But I don’t consciously aim my blog only at women.

Have you met some major technical problems when you were creating your business?

I only just got a laptop for the first time in my life (I’m 33), so my main problem was that I was always chained to a desk. And that doesn’t work very well when you have little kids! I lacked flexibility.

The only other problem (albeit mild) is that I’m not great with HTML and coding – I’m still very much a novice, although I’d like to work on that.

Would you call yourself a tech-savvy woman? and why?

I’m reasonably tech-savvy, yeah! I love computers and gadgets and have quite a collection. I’m also keen for my children to be tech-savvy too, and they already are pretty familiar with any device starting with i!

Name 3 apps that you can’t live without.

Instagram is number one, followed by Pinterest and Cozi.

How do think technology is going to change the women’s life?

It’s already changed mine by keeping me more organised, and therefore more productive. It also keeps me in contact with friends and family all over the world, any kind of information I could ever want, and it has provided me with a flexible working option from home. It also gives me pictures of LOLcats. I’m a happy woman.
