Seven-time World Championship surfer and WWF-Australia partner, Layne Beachley will forever be connected to the water and it’s why she is keen to advocate for the Great Barrier Reef.

There is so much to love and treasure about the Great Barrier Reef – and so much for us to protect. The reef is home to more than 1,600 species of fish, 133 species of sharks and rays, 30 species of whales and dolphins and six of the world’s seven marine turtles.

However a sad statistic is that over 60% of the Reef is open to commercial gill net fishing. These nets trap and kill precious marine animals, including dolphins, dugongs and turtles.

To help advocate for a thriving Reef, Layne is partnering with WWF-Au on its video series here. During the short episode, Layne chats with Richard Leck, Head of Oceans at WWF-Australia about a solution to help protect the Great Barrier Reef for future generations and the changes in the water Layne has seen first-hand surfing.
