Moto X Review: Why X Truly Marks The Spot

Looking for a new mobile? The next question is where do you start? There are so many options, so many brands, capabilities, features and marketing promises that seem diabolical and we haven’t even started talking terms… ‘to contract or not to contract’.

A good place to start is to decide what you want your smart device to do and your budget and the options begin to narrow.

If you are looking for style and some substance without breaking the bank perhaps consider a new device from an established player.

A classic name in Australian Mobiles is Motorola. They have been in Australia since the beginning of cellular and continue to respond to market demand by delivering great new features.

Imagine a water-resistant phone or perhaps a hard wearing screen that does not shatter any time you lose grip whilst juggling your life. Meet the new Motorola mid-range mobile Moto X4. Not only does it deliver a resilient screen by providing durable Corning Gorilla Glass with 5.2 inch 1080×1920 pixel display but it is water resistant with an IP68 rating.

It is an attractive device and maintains the well-loved Motorola design aesthetic. It has a solid metal unibody design and comes in the choice of black or sterling blue. It is shiny and sleek however if you are a girl on the run (popping your SPF on the back of your hands at the traffic lights) do note it is a smudge magnet. Due to its gorgeous shiny metal casing, it smudges, smears, fingerprints and picks up the cheek print of your highlighter in daily use. Perhaps I am just a mess but I did spend way too much time shining the phone with normal use.

The dual cameras are well featured however a tad sluggish. It has two rear cameras (12 and 8 megapixels, respectively), a 16-megapixel selfie camera with its own flash and low light feature to ensure a good selfie in anytime. It has a great performing battery life with its 3,000mAh battery.

The other notable addition is that it features Amazon’s Alexa voice app, which turns the Moto X4 into a voice-triggered remote for thousands of Alexa skills. It will awaken with the Alexa ‘Wake’ word and voila you will be able to launch Alexa from a locked screen. It features Google Assistant too.

It is a good allround android device and for a midrange price point outright and it packs a lot of bang for your buck.

Moto X is available at JB Hifi for $699.
