Mr Sophie Monk is Now the Patron Saint of Insta-Husbands

We all know the struggle. You’re out with friends, the lighting is perfect, your outfit’s giving main character energy… but your designated photographer is three clicks away from a meltdown. Enter the Unsung Snapper – that Instagram husband, bestie or family member we rope in (read: beg) to take a million photos just to find the one.

Now, Samsung is giving these real-life heroes the recognition they deserve. To celebrate the launch of the super slim Galaxy S25 Edge, the tech giant has teamed up with none other than Joshua Gross – aka Sophie Monk’s husband and full-time Instagram husband—to shine a light on the people behind the lens. And honestly? It’s about time.

Behind every great photo … is a very patient friend

A recent Samsung-commissioned survey reveals just how far Aussies will go to get the perfect shot. According to the data, nearly half of Australians take photos for someone else’s social media at least once a week. Among them, the most patient saints are those suffering silently through endless “just one more” takes, dodging photobombers, battling dodgy lighting, and pretending to enjoy it.

Joshua knows the drill all too well. “If the shot doesn’t work out, it’s on me,” he jokes. “There’s a lot of pressure to get a great photo when you’re photographing one of the most beautiful women in the world.” No pressure, mate.

Even with a subject like Sophie Monk, Joshua admits he often takes hundreds of shots to get the winning image. And, while he’s learned to prioritise his “muse” and embrace the chaos (weather changes, rogue strangers, dogs peeing in the background), he credits Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge with making his Snapper duties a whole lot easier.

Taking it’s Insta-photo toll

The research also shows that 70% of Aussies say taking photos for social media affects their ability to actually enjoy the moment. Over half (57%) say the biggest frustration is how long it takes to get the right shot, and almost half of Gen Z and Millennials admit they’ve felt embarrassed taking photos of someone else in public. (Nothing says love like crouching in a shopping centre garden bed to get that golden angle.)

The demands don’t stop there. Nearly a third of us are regularly asked to retake a shot – usually because of an unflattering facial expression, a surprise blink, or a random photobomber killing the vibe. We’ve all been there: one second you’re being a supportive pal, and the next you’re taking direction like it’s a Vogue cover shoot.

The Snapper’s Secret Weapon

Enter left of stage is the new Galaxy S25 Edge – designed with the Unsung Snapper in mind. It weighs a featherlight 163g, is just 5.8mm thick, and boasts a ridiculous 200MP wide lens camera with next-gen Nightography. Translation? Whether it’s a sunny picnic or a dimly lit bar, you’ll capture every freckle, filter-free.

Plus, Samsung’s new Galaxy AI editing tools are the ultimate time-savers. You can erase rogue bystanders, fix blinking faces, and even remove annoying audio from videos without retaking the shot. It’s like a magic wand for people who just want to get the photo right the first time—and still have time to eat their meal while it’s hot.

The Selfless Heroes of Social Media

Behind every great Instagram feed is a partner or friend lying on the pavement, holding bags, squinting into the sun, and shouting “One, two, three … again!” Joshua Gross may be a model Unsung Snapper, but he’s certainly not alone. Aussies everywhere are enduring awkward stares, wet shoes, and mild back pain just to make someone else look good online.

So, next time you ask your partner for “just a few more” shots, maybe tag them. Buy them a coffee. Or better yet, upgrade them to the Galaxy S25 Edge so they can crush it as your creative director-slash-bestie behind the lens.

Because let’s face it … whether you’re Sophie Monk or just someone trying to get the right photo for Hinge, we all need our own Insta-husband (or BFF) Or at least a phone that won’t let us down.

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge is now available in Titanium Silver, Titanium Icyblue and Titanium Jetblack from $1,849 (256GB) and $2,049 (512GB).
