Netflix Announces The Launch Of The Queen’s Gambit Chess Game

Last year Netflix announced that it will expand into gaming, with a target of having 50 games available by the end of 2022.

As part of this plan, Netflix on Friday released the news that it will be launching a chess game based on The Queen’s Gambit. You’ll even be able to play chess on the ceiling like Beth Harmon!

Ripstone and Netflix are collaborating to develop the game. From what has been revealed in the trailer, we can look forward to playing in the original 1960s locations from the series, including Beth’s orphanage and the Las Vegas hotel. Plus if you’re like me and have absolutely no idea how to play chess – don’t worry! The game will have varying modes of difficulty to accommodate all types of players.

This launch comes alongside announcements to release other Netflix games based on a number of our favourite series – including Shadow & Bone, Too Hot To Handle and La Casa de Papel (Money Heist).

It is expected that The Queen’s Gambit chess game will be released by the end of 2022. The decision to start bringing games to Netflix is part of their strategy to make their subscription more attractive than ever before, as subscribers will be able to download these games at no additional cost. Notably, Netflix’s plans to expand into the realm of gaming also comes after reporting its first-ever significant decline in subscribers in early 2022.

Even though the games will be bundled in with the Netflix subscription, you will need to download them separately from your device’s app store.
