Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Brings 5G To Affordable Smartphones

Affordable smartphones just got better with the news that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset can provide 5G which was previously only available for flagship phones.

With 375 5G designs launched using Qualcomm’s 5G solutions, the American company will make cheaper phones more powerful than before.

What is the Snapdragon 690 platform?

Snapdragon 690 is a chipset that essentially brings many of the high-end 5G mobile experiences to cheaper, budget phones. It’ll enable smartphones to support 4K HDR, 120hz displays, wider access to cloud-based, multiplayer games, and much more.

Snapdragon 690 is also equipped with the latest 5th gen AI Engine to enable smart camera, voice translation, AI imaging, and AI-enhanced gaming. And compared to the Snapdragon 675, Qualcomm said it will supposedly produce up to 20 percent better CPU performance as well as 60 percent faster graphics rendering.

Why is the news about Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 690 chipset so exciting?

Even though Qualcomm expects to release the chipset in the second half of 2020, it may take some time for phone makers to actually incorporate Snapdragon 690. Nonetheless, it remains exciting because it will bring 5G services to the people who don’t want to spend the extra hundreds on a smartphone that already offers it.

It seems the best option for people with budget phones who want the benefits of 5G without breaking the bank.

Keep a lookout for the back end of 2020 for companies like HMD, LG, Motorola, Sharp, and TCL as they set their sights on releasing new phones with the Snapdragon 690 chipset.
