Review: Zega Intelligent Cookware

Zega Cookware has released two intelligent pots that might make you think differently about cooking.

The pot is designed with insulated walls so that you just need to bring it to the right temperature. Then you can take the pot off the stove and your food will keep cooking. It was designed by the same team behind the popular Magic Bullet.

Zega’s Co-Founder and lead designer, Brendan Dunne, said the intelligent cookware has been designed to make busy lives easier.

“We know that one of the biggest barriers to creating healthy and nutritious home-cooked meals is a lack of time, so we wanted to design stylish, high-quality cookware that takes care of the cooking for you. Zega’s unique design and SmartControl technology means you can simply pop in the ingredients and walk away – leave the house, pick up the kids from school, whatever you need to do – and come home to a healthy, home cooked meal.

“The secret is the double-wall construction that sandwiches a thermodynamic layer of air between two sheets of 18-10 stainless steel. This traps heat and moisture inside the pot like a thermos, so you heat it for just minutes and it cooks for hours, off the stove, with no stirring or tending required. And because it continues to cook without gas or electricity, it saves money, it’s better for the environment, and it’s perfectly safe to leave unattended. Additionally, the delicate, self-cooking process locks in more flavour and nutrients, creating healthier, tastier meals.”

Zega Cookware Set Up

There are two ways to use a Zega pot – you can use the recipes on the app and follow the instructions, or use your own recipes via the Quick Cook feature of the app (to help you work out timings). The Zega app comes with recipes for chicken, fish, pork, beef, lamb and vegetable dishes.

Pros

  • Double-wall thermal insulted design allows you to cook safely off the stove without the need for electricity or gas (resulting in saving money on utility bills)
  • Works with all stove types: gas, induction, electric, ceramic and halogen
  • Nice big ergonomic handles for easy lifting
  • Dishwasher-safe
  • 18/10 stainless steel
  • The accessories are designed to be stored inside the pot
  • There are handy FAQS for setting up and sync the device
  • Receive a notification on your smartphone when dinner is ready

Cons

  • We would have liked to see more recipes in the Zega app

The cookware was developed in Australia and uses state of the art technology. There are two versions: analogue and digital. You can, of course, use the cookware as a conventional pot.

The digital lid has a SmartControl knob with a high precision digital thermometer, microprocessor, Bluetooth connectivity and an LED screen. This allows you to remotely monitor your cooking from another room, like the entertainment room.

The analogue lid has a knob with a bi-metal thermometer. When the pointer on the dial reaches the red zone, you can take the pot off the stove and self-cooking will begin.

Zega Cookware Recipes

We cooked the beef casserole with red wine, which was delicious and we had some leftovers for lunch the next day. I’m keen try cooking the coconut chicken curry and some lamb shanks.

The Zega pot is large enough for a big family, or suitable for when you want to do some meal prep, or cook some extra for leftovers.

Zega Cookware is perfect for busy working home cooks or anyone who likes to keep an eye on their kids while their food cooks by itself. It’s also ideal for anyone who likes to batch cook their food or meal prep in advance.

Lifetime warranty. 30 days free returns.
