Snapchat has officially launched Snap Map Layers. After first being announced earlier this year at the Snap Partner Summit, this launch marks Snap Map’s evolution from product to platform.
In addition to Layers, Snap Maps now has more than 30 million businesses and 250 million monthly active users, creating a rich landscape for discovery.
Layers will act as an interactive platform incorporated into the Snap Map that makes it more fun and useful for Snapchatters and businesses. To start, Snapchat will offer two Snap-owned experiences: Memories and Explore.
Helping Snapchatters revisit their Memories
As Snap rounds the end of the year, they’re putting Snapchatter’s Memories on their Snap Map, allowing them to revisit their favorite moments, pegged to the places where they happened. (Note: This Layer will only show your own Memories, you cannot see friends’ Memories on your Snap Map)
Explore your local area (and the world around you)
With Explore, Snap is introducing a reimagined viewport on Snap Map that builds on their signature Heat Map. Explore makes it easier for the Snap community to experience other places through photos and videos submitted from Snapchatters around the world.
Users who have the most recent Snapchat update can access Layers through the Snap Map by tapping the button for a Layers menu in the upper-right corner. In this first iteration, Snapchatters will be able to toggle between Layers to customise the landscape, so they can always see exactly what they’re looking for — whether they’re in the mood to look back, or just look around.
Snapchat is making it easier to connect with your friends through real life experiences.
Snap has announced that they will be launching partnered layers with the likes of Ticketmaster very soon! With the Ticketmaster Layer, Snapchatters can find concerts and events at venues in their area — they can even connect with other Snapchat friends who are interested in the same shows. From there, Snapchatters can buy tickets to the show through the Ticketmaster Mini.
