A daughter’s last hope and a father’s only chance. That’s the tagline for Matt Damon’s new movie, Stillwater. Out in cinemas by July 29th, it’s a thriller with heart. And it seems these well-known, action movie stars are going to keep on popping up around us lately. While Damon is out here in Australia now as he works on the latest Thor movie, Tom Cruise is filming Mission Impossible 7 in Yorkshire in the UK and yes, he’s still doing some of his own stunts. We’ll take a look at what he’s been up to.

Stillwater is a dramatic thriller, directed by Academy Award winner Tom McCarthy and starring Matt Damon as an American oil-rig worker called Bill who travels to Marseille to visit his estranged daughter.

His daughter is in prison for a murder she says she didn’t commit. Confronted with language barriers, cultural differences and a complicated legal system, Bill builds a new life for himself in France as he makes it his personal mission to exonerate his daughter. Along with Matt Damon, the movie stars Abigail Breslin and Camille Cottin.

Take a look at this tweet below where Damon does a quick interview with the Today Show here in Australia. It’s very noticeable he did the interview from a TAB! Of course they’re asking him what he thinks about the rumours that J.Lo and Ben Affleck are back together again and he says there’s not enough beer in the world for him to make a comment on that!

Stillwater – starring Matt Damon – will be in cinemas on July 29th…

Tom Cruise is doing some of his own stunts again as he films Mission: Impossible 7 in Yorkshire in the UK

Mission: Impossible 7 – starring Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt – is being filmed in Yorkshire in the UK right now. This is the seventh film in the series and is scheduled to be in the cinemas by May 27th, 2022. Recently, the cast and crew of this latest film were seen prepping an action sequence with a moving train and yes, you guessed it, Tom Cruise is still doing some of his own stunts.

Cruise was spotted squaring off in an epic fight atop a moving train with the sequel’s villain, played by Esai Morales, while filming in North Yorkshire. The team had built a track which stops over an old quarry, with the train said to go hurtling off the tracks and fall 160 feet into a water tank, while Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and Morales’ unnamed villain are still fighting atop the locomotive.

There were some people who protested about the shoot saying it will ‘shatter the tranquility’ of the area. But it went ahead because the Peak District National Park Authority approved the application, while the production company, Jupiter Springs, promised to keep the disruption to a minimum.

Mission Impossible 7 will be in cinemas on May 27 in 2022 – it’s only a year away…

Stan’s new series Girls5eva could be just what the doctor ordered

Girls5eva was created by Meredith Scardino who’s known for her work on Saturday Night Live and it was executive produced by Tina Fey who has such a great sense of comedy and this can be seen throughout the series. Fey even makes a guest star appearance later in the season and that will be something to watch out for.

The show is pretty light and bubbly on the surface but behind this it does show a group of women who can take control and be friends with each other at the same time. It’s about a pop group called Girls5Eva who’ve all gone their separate ways after a brief stint of stardom a decade ago. Ringing any bells aka The Spice Girls?

We see the path that each member of the group has gone down. Dawn (played by singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles) was the group’s aspiring songwriter before but she’s put all of this on hold and is now a wife and mother, while also working at her angry brother’s restaurant.

Gloria (Saturday Night Live writer Paula Pell) is working as a dentist and she’s experiencing what it’s like to be divorced after being one of the first gay couples to marry in the state of New York. Summer (Cougar Town star Busy Philipps) is a reality TV star but she’s been rejected from Real Housewives eight times. She has a daughter named Stevia and her former boy band husband never seems to call.

Then there’s Wickie (Broadway star Renée Elise Goldsberry who played Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton) who’s an Instagram influencer but as the show progresses we can see her life isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.

All of these women are forced out of retirement when hip-hop artist Lil Stinker (Jeremiah Craft) hears their one hit song Famous 5Eva, and wants the women to reunite as his backup singers for a one-off TV performance. What happens is funny and thought-provoking at the same time.

The eight episodes of Girls5eva are now streaming on Stan…

Netflix will screen its new movie, Army of the Dead, on May 21st

Well this R-rated Netflix movie starts as any Vegas heist movie should – with a guy getting a blow job while driving his car in the Nevada desert and accidentally ramming into a top-secret military convoy which unleashes a secret government project.

It only gets better from there. The mayhem continues and we’re introduced to the main characters and we see they have all their own reasons for joining this army. This is a zombie heist movie, directed by Zack Snyder, with a screenplay he co-wrote with Shay Hatten and Joby Harold, based on a story by Snyder.

The film stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi and many more. They all team up and plan a Las Vegas casino heist amid a zombie apocalypse.

The film was announced in 2007 but spent several years in development at Warner Bros before Netflix bought the rights in 2019. Snyder was announced as director, and the cast joined over the next several months. Filming began in July 2019, taking place in Los Angeles, New Mexico, and New Jersey.

Army of the Dead will be released in some theatres in the US on May 14th before streaming digitally on Netflix on May 21st…
