Telstra is making it easier for its mobile customers to stay in touch when they’re travelling overseas by offering free Wi-Fi data at millions of hotspots with Telstra Air, along with more affordable international roaming Travel Pass rates.
It’s the first time a major Australian telco has offered this to its customers. Sharing holiday snaps in some of the world’s most popular travel destinations is now easy, thanks to free Wi-Fi data at more than 19 million hotspots in more than 15 countries. It’s all due to Telstra Air’s partnership with global Wi-Fi provider Fon.
It means you’ll no longer have to head to a café to take advantage of café Wi-Fi, or even loitering outside the same café later to sneakily share holiday snaps.
All you’ll need to do when you’re overseas is activate Telstra Air before leaving Australia to make the most of the free Wi-Fi on your trip and pre-paid customers will just need an active recharge to access free Wi-Fi data.
They’ll then be able to enjoy unlimited Wi-Fi data in countries including the UK, Japan, Spain, Greece, South Africa and Brazil. This is in addition to free and unlimited data at more than 650,000 Telstra Air hotspots across Australia.
The Fon international Wi-Fi network is already a popular way for Telstra’s home broadband customers to connect when overseas, with the top five cities being: Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Budapest and Madrid.
Telstra has also simplified its International Roaming Travel Pass. There are now just two Travel Pass zones (down from three) and the costs of purchasing travel passes for the majority of countries have reduced from an average of $15 to $10 per day.
