This standalone app is one that prioritises our daily interactions with the people closest to us. Sure, we can share Instagram stories or stay in touch via direct messaging, but it’s never really felt personal enough.
Last year’s introduction of Close Friends was a step in the right direction, and Threads aims to build on what Close Friends is, and in fact seemingly improves it. Threads is a space where you can message and receive messages from your close friends list. If you don’t have one, you can create on right from within the app to get started.
So, what can you do?
Firstly, it’s a camera-first messaging app, meaning that it’ll open directly to the camera making it extremely easy to share photos and videos with your close friends.
You will now also be able to more easily keep up to date with what your friends are doing and vice versa. Instead of having to snap a photo or a video, with Status you can simply pick from suggested statuses like “Studying”, or you can make your own personal statuses like “Should be studying”. Auto-status, when enabled, updates your close friends on little details about your day without giving away your location. This feature can of course be switched off if you wish.
Threads will now also have your closest friends’ Direct conversations in the app, meaning you can message from either within Threads or Instagram Direct, depending on who you would like to interact with.
Threads will be launching today on both iOS and Android, so make sure to try it out for yourself!
