Trek to Yomi is a cinematic action-adventure game about feudal Japan. Play as Hiroki with a Bushido.
Black and white silent movies inspired the combat scenes. Each scene is designed to look like a theatre stage with a 2D approach.
Each chapter features different combat areas. You can look forward to transitional enemies, and encounters with tougher enemies including spearmen, archers and riflemen.
There are four levels of gameplay with different difficulties, however, the Kensei challenge is saved only for those that have mastered the game. The Kabuki story mode is the easiest. To experience the beauty of the game fully, it is recommended to play in Bushido or Ronin mode. These two modes have an estimated playtime of 5 to 7 hours.
The instant kill mode will be unlocked after you have completed one playthrough on any difficulty.
Leonard Menchiari is an independent video game developer, says “Trek to Yomi is the culmination of ideas I’ve had buzzing around in my mind for many years. What began as a 2000-word script evolved into a sumptuous cinematic experience inspired by Japanese movies of the 50s and 60s. The game we ultimately created is as authentic to that vision as possible, which you’ll see not only in the overall visual direction but through pacing, characterization and even line delivery.”
“Authenticity is of utmost importance to us, and everything that we did was carefully crafted while keeping in mind ancient Japanese culture, from the religious beliefs to the way a sword is supposed to be hung on the wall, or the way a kimono is supposed to be tied. A lot of material was inspired by the overwhelming material at the Edo Museum in Tokyo, and we had a lot of help from native Japanese experts in order to make sure every decision we made remained coherent.”
Trek to Yomi is a stylish Samari-inspired side-scroller with lots of awesome backdrops.
