A few weeks ago, I asked my Women Love Tech readers to answer a survey so that I could get to know them better. Well, now it’s my turn to show you who is behind Women Love Tech. I could go on about my long working days spent running to smartphone events, meetings and press conferences. Or let you in on a little secret – that 80% of my time is spent sitting at a computer.
But, what if I told you that my full name is Frederique Bros (shortened to Freddie in Australia), that I was born in France and have lived Down Under for 14 years. That I have a French Bulldog (the gorgeous Oscar), live by the beach, watch horror flicks to de-stress and hate mushrooms despite being a vegetarian?! Well, now that I have your attention I want to introduce you to the new love of my life (after Oscar of course) – the PowerShot G1X Mark II.
Over the full weekend I tried to be a lifestyle blogger; to show you all a little bit of my world. To help do this I partnered up with Canon to trial their fabulous G1X Mark II, which enabled me to shoot what is important to me, to relax and to show you my world in images!
♥ Oscar ♥
Every morning I wake up at 5:30am. Sometimes on weekends, though, Oscar lets me sleep in until 6:30am, lucky me! This weekend, I emerge half asleep into the my living room, where the light is already shining brightly. I grab my G1X Mark II and set it up to capture the vivid colors in my house and to take some pictures of my Frenchie. Only after uploading the photos (via Wi-Fi) onto my computer do I realise how spectacular the photos of my dog are. There is such clarity in the images that you can almost hear his loud breathing.
Oscar – My French Bulldog ready for his morning walk
If you have a pet, you will know how difficult it is to take a photo of them that’s not blurry. But I gave it a go – heading to the park then the beach – assigning myself as pet paparazzi. In order to get the best snap of Oscar, I changed the camera function to the fast continuous shooting mode.
Oscar is always moving around excitedly, and this function works wonders for trying to capture his action shots perfectly. He moves so quickly, I normally have trouble trying to get that perfect shot, whereas fast continuous shooting allowed me to capture lots of closely spaced photographs.
Once again I managed to get some great images of Oscar with the natural morning light, and then was able to pick out my favourites! I played around with the background defocus as well, which allowed me to focus more on Oscar, and was once again amazed at the fantastic quality of the images!
Bronte Beach
There’s no better way to start the day off than with a beautiful walk down to the beach. As you may know by now, I love taking photos in the morning because the light is absolutely beautiful. Now that I have the G1X Mark II camera, I know I’ll never miss out on a great early morning photo opportunity again.
I took a few photographs at Bronte on my favourite new camera, and again was pleasantly surprised at how clear they were! I suddenly felt like a professional photographer. But I can’t take all the credit; the bright f/2-3.9 lens makes the most of any lighting and gives you great clarity and colour no matter what the conditions.
Also, because I don’t have to worry about focusing on Oscar moving around when I’m taking photos of the beach, I can relax and play around with the manual focus peaking function. I’m able to take my creativity to the next level!

Features
This Canon camera has so many amazing features! I tried them all, but here are my favourites:
– Wi-Fi function. You can wirelessly send your photos from the camera to your computer or your smartphone or printer, and it’s so easy to set up. This is so great because it means you can conveniently share images with family, friends and social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to name a few.
– You can zoom manually up to 5x enlargement.
– The battery life is fantastic, and when they do run out they are easily rechargeable, which is a great feature, trust me!
– The camera is equipped with seven fun and exciting creative filters, so if you are feeling a little uninspired, with only a tap of the touch screen LCD you can pop some fun filters onto your images like the fish eye effect and toy camera mode – great for giving an interesting twist to an everyday scene
– You can adjust the screen angle and orientation to suit the scene or how you are shooting.
It was so much fun to take pictures of my weekend, and I have to admit the Canon Camera really surprised me by how easy and fast it was to use – and more importantly the photos are top quality. The size is great and will fit in any handbag – you get all the benefits of a DSLR from the body of a compact camera!
