It’s that time of the year again when the world’s largest music streaming platform turns up the voume on our pop obsessions, guilty pleasures, and those “this is just for the vibe” playlists. If you’ve spent the morning sharing your Spotify Wrapped 2024 findings with friends on WhatsApp – acting surprised and faux embarrassed that you really listen to the same song 500 times – but are also kind of curious if what other Australians – and indeed the world – streamed the most this year, then read on. Spoiler alert: Taylor Swift is at the centre of it all, proving she’s not just the queen of pop but a global streaming phenomenon.

Downloads Down Under

Down under, Taylor Swift reigns supreme as Australia’s most-streamed artist for the second year running. Her album “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology” swept through playlists, delivering lyrics so emotive they could double as late-night diary entries. Right behind her, Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” emerged as the nation’s anthem of 2024. And for those nostalgic Aussie vibes? Vance Joy’s evergreen “Riptide” reminded us why local music is here to stay.

Aussies didn’t stop there. The Wiggles danced their way to the top as the most-streamed local artists, followed by The Kid LAROI. Whether you’re a toddler or a teenager, there’s something magical about wiggling your way through life.

In podcasts, The Joe Rogan Experience held its iron grip on Aussie ears, while Prince Harry’s Spare took the audiobook crown, giving us royal drama on repeat. Move over, Netflix; audiobooks are the new binge.

Global Trends: Time to talk Taylor

Globally, Taylor Swift had 26.6 billion streams. Let that number sink in. Not only did she claim the title of Global Top Artist, but Spotify also gave her an entire Wrapped badge, surprise animations for her tracks, and an AR friendship bracelet because, why not? It’s a Swiftie world, and we’re just living in it.

And the most-streamed song worldwide? Sabrina Carpenter’s caffeine-fueled bop “Espresso” woke everyone up and kept them grooving. Add to that Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” and Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather”, and 2024’s playlists were nothing short of a melodic masterpiece.

Personalised playlists

For those eager to uncover their own listening habits, Spotify’s personalised Wrapped experience brings your 2024 musical journey to life. This year’s features include insights into your “Music Evolution”, which maps your changing tastes and moods through three distinct phases.

Your Wrapped playlist combines your favourites with tracks you’re predicted to love, while “Longest Listening Streak” reveals which artist you simply couldn’t stop playing. And if you’re in a market with music video access, you’ll even get a personalised video playlist showcasing your most-loved artists.

Spotify’s AI innovations also stepped up this year. Fans can now enjoy an AI podcast detailing their Wrapped stats, hosted by generative AI personalities. Meanwhile, the AI DJ feature provides witty commentary about your year, alongside the tunes that defined it.

2024 also marked the debut of Spotify’s Wrapped Creator Experience for authors, alongside returning features for artists and podcasters. From bespoke insights to personalised microsites, creators can now dive deeper into how their work resonated with fans. Finally, given that Spotify Wrapped is practically made for sharing, this year, you can flaunt your stats on TikTok, Snapchat, or anywhere your heart desires. From custom animations to TikTok’s FYP integration, Spotify ensures your Wrapped social media flex is as iconic as your playlists
