Entries Are Now Open For Australia Good Design Awards

About The Awards

The Awards celebrate the best new products and services on the Australian market, excellence in architectural design, digital and communication design and reward emerging areas of design including business model innovation, social innovation and design entrepreneurship.

The Good Design Awards Ceremony will coincide with the launch of Vivid Sydney, now the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas and will for the first time, feature an open exhibition of the finalists in contention to receive Australia’s highest honour for design innovation.

Organised by Good Design Australia, the awards welcome entries from all over the globe, with an independent judging panel expected to assess over 400 entries.

The awards aim to recognise designers from all walks of life and across all age groups with the Young Australian Design Awards for designers under 30 and the new Design Entrepreneur Awards aimed at unearthing the best new ideas and design concepts not already on the market.

“We’re looking every aspect of design and innovation – from the design of a toothbrush to a high-rise building, and everything in between,” Good Design Australia Chief Executive, Dr Brandon Gien said.

Mr Musk’s Tesla Motors clinched the prestigious 2015 Good Design Award of the Year for its Model S electric car – an offering that effectively marries good design with ground breaking clean technology.

Dr Gien said the Design Entrepreneur Awards makes it debut this year after Good Design Australia identified an opportunity to help individuals and companies fund and commercialise their ideas.

“The Design Entrepreneur Awards is a completely new offering aimed at anyone with a great idea that has not yet reached the market.

“It can be a product, a mobile app or an idea that solves a problem in a clever way,” he said.

Finalists and winners of the Design Entrepreneur Awards will get the opportunity to work with CtechBA, who are leading experts in commercialising products and solutions to help get their idea to market.

“CtechBA will bring much needed expertise covering the entire commercialisation lifecycle from design and development through to to sales, marketing and distribution channels.

“It’s one thing to have your work recognised on paper but to turn those accolades into a tangible product is no mean feat. This is where CtechBA’s expertise lies and we’re extremely happy to have them involved in the awards,” Dr Gien said.

Dr Gien said participants would have the opportunity to network with high-net- worth individuals and potential investors in the audience.

“We’re calling for the best and brightest ideas, and we hope to give people a pathway to showcase their innovative and entrepreneurial spirit on a world stage,” he said.

The Good Design Awards culminate in a black tie gala night on 27 May, 2016, at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney, in conjunction with the opening night Vivid Sydney.

Submissions to the 2016 Good Design Awards, Young Australian Design Awards and the Design Entrepreneur Awards close on 15 April 2016.
