Facebook Unveils Keyword Snooze To Help Control Your News Feed

Had enough of Trump-related news that does the opposite of making your day? Ever wished you could just stop receiving notifications and news about egregiously unsavoury people or things, at least for a few days? If only there was a button that could turn it all off for a while. Well, Facebook (one of our “news” sources these days) has begun testing the next addition to their suite of News Feed controls, in the form of the aptly-named ‘Keyword Snooze.’

Located in a post’s upper right-hand menu in News Feed, Keyword Snooze allows Facebook users to literally “take a break” from seeing posts about certain topics in their News Feed. You have the option to snooze specific keywords or phases, which will remove all posts from people, Pages and Groups that contain the exact word or phrase you’ve specified, for 30 days.

Of course, this feature needn’t just be used to snooze disappointing world news. If you want to avoid spoilers for the season finale of a TV show, hit Keyword Snooze. Want to avoid seeing drool-worthy food pics on Facebook while you’re on a 2-week diet? Hit Keyword Snooze.

Facebook’s intention in developing this control is to make sure your experience on Facebook is relevant, so that you’re not seeing an unhealthy amount of content on the same subject. Unless of course you want to.

So now you know what you need to do when you’re busy and have to wait for the end of the week to watch a new episode of Game of Thrones. Get ready for a spoiler-free life, y’all!
