Is the New Cricut Maker 4 the Ultimate Mother’s Day Gift?

I’ve been coveting a Cricut for years. In fact, I’ve ‘almost’ bought one several times, and was thrilled to score an invite to the 2024 Cricut Christmas Crafternoon back in November. Let’s call it friends in high places (and the perks of being a tech writer) but I’ve just gotten my hands on the brand-new Cricut Maker 4 and I’m beyond excited to put it through it’s paces.

If you’ve ever seen the episode of The Simpsons where Bart gets a label maker, expect similar “Property of Bart Simpson” energy in my household. The difference? Instead of just slapping my name on everything, I’ll be beautifying, crafting, gifting, and side-hustling like never before.

I’m going to spend the next few weeks learning everything I can about this simple but incredibly diverse and talented machine to prove it.

Here are my first impressions of the just released Cricut Maker 4, available Now at a store near you.

Tip: keep an eye on Harvey Norman AUSpotlight AUHarvey Norman NZ and Spotlight NZ  for great Cricut deals.

1. It’s stunning … and that matters

Cricut has given their latest machines a design upgrade, and it is sleek. The Maker 4 comes in Sage, and the Explore 4 in Seashell – both soft, modern shades that look gorgeous sitting on a desk. I think she needs a name, and I’m feeling Snippy Longstocking.

2. You can start creating right away

Nothing kills creative excitement faster than needing to buy a million extras just to get started. Thankfully, Cricut thought of that. The Maker 4 and Explore 4 come with:

  • Smart Vinyl, Cardstock & Smart Iron-On
  • Transfer Tape (because we’re making pro-level projects, not just sticky disasters)
  • A LightGrip Mat and Mini Weeder (tiny tools that make all the difference)
  • A Fine Point Pen (yes, you can draw and write too)

This means I can start crafting immediately, and test out some of the machines functions before I decide what extra attachments I might need.

3. It’s a side hustle goldmine

If you’re even slightly business-minded (or have entrepreneurial kids, like me), a Cricut opens up so many opportunities. People sell:

  • Custom labels for jars, pantries, and small businesses (my jam jars are about to glow up)
  • Personalised gifts like T-shirts, mugs, and decals
  • Market stall must-haves, from signage to stickers

Basically, if you’ve ever wanted to monetise your creativity, this is a fantastic tool to start. And in this economy, buying mama a side hustle assist could be as profitable as it is enjoyable.

4. It’s twice as fast as previous models

Speed matters. Especially when you’re juggling work, kids, and life. The Maker 4 and Explore 4 can cut up to twice as fast as the previous models when using materials like cardstock and vinyl. That means more projects in less time.

5. It’s not just a machine … it’s a creative community

If you love connecting with other creatives online, you’ll be pleased to know that The Cricut community is massive. From social media groups to design inspiration on Cricut Design Space, you’re never short of ideas, tutorials, or even potential business partners. Perhaps you’ll even try becoming a Crafty Cricut Content Creator.

I’m just starting my Cricut journey, but I already know this:

  • My chicken coop is set to be rebranded “The Eggcelsior Hotel”
  • The preserves I’ve been making will shift from generic Dolmio Jar to bespoke Farmhouse branding
  • My 14 year old and I will be testing out a custom print products micro business  to see how much money can be made for a little weekend work.

And that’s just the beginning.

So far… The Cricut Maker 4 is everything I hoped it would be: beautiful, fast, beginner-friendly, and full of creative possibilities.

I’m only just scratching the surface of this muti faceted, uber talented machine, and I intend to report back in the coming months with results, pics and hopefully some fat profits to get you inspired to have some creative, and potentially lucrative fun. And if you’re looking for a Mother’s Day gift? This might just be the one to ask for. (Or, you know, just gift it to yourself).
