Did you know that Osmo has been played in more than one million households worldwide?

The Osmo system fuses digital gameplay and physical interaction to create fun play experiences designed for all kids. The company was founded in 2013 by ex-Google engineers Pramod Sharma and Jerome Scholler.

You’ll want to begin with a starter kit that suits your target age group and device (iPad or Fire), then you can expand with add-on games.  The skills covered include coding, critical thinking, drawing, geography, imaginative play, literacy, math, puzzles and science.

Here are some of their latest releases:

Osmo Coding Starter Kit

The Coding Starter Kit combines three coding bestsellers Coding Awbie, Coding Jam and Coding Duo. The aim of the coding start kit is to make coding accessible, fun, and engaging for kids ages 5-10.

Children learn basic coding concepts including problem-solving, computational thinking, and coding fundamentals, in addition to more complex concepts, such as sequencing, looping, logic thinking, and pair programming.

Osmo Genius Starter Kits

The Osmo Little Genius Starter Kit combines AI technology with classic learning methods to create a holistic learning system for pre-schoolers. The kit was created for the 3-5 age group. It helps nurture core developmental skills including: vocabulary, letters, emotions, problem-solving, and creative confidence.

The kit includes these hands-on experiences:

  • Tangible ABC’s – Playful practice for pre-readers. Build letters with squishy, colourful sticks and rings. Learn over 500 vocabulary words.
  • Squiggle Magic – Create anything you want using sticks and rings. Watch them come alive on the screen. Learn vocabulary, build artistic confidence, and develop fine motor skills.
  • Costume Party – Experiment with clothes and colours to make party outfits, then watch the characters react!
  • Stories – Hours of problem-solving fun. Mix and match costumes to find silly solutions to obstacles and navigate adventures.

Genius Starter Kit + Family Game Night (kids aged 6 to 10;)

Little Genius Starter Kit + Early Math Adventure (kids aged 3 to 5;).

“Hands-on games help prepare kids for higher-level learning and build confidence around coding,” says Osmo CEO Pramod Sharma. “Through play, kids transform their tablet into a coding adventure, where they connect colourful blocks of code in the physical world to chart their adventure on the screen.”

“We conducted this exciting study to explore how today’s adult parents differ from past generations, how they learned parenting, how they value spending time with kids, and whether this includes allowing mobile screen time,” says Pramod Sharma, CEO of Osmo.

“Given these parents grew up mostly without mobile devices, we were curious about their views on technology.” Sharma, a father to two children, co-founded Osmo because he desired a hands-on, educational, healthier way for kids to use devices, and allay parental anxiety about using technology at home.
