Pink, Powerful and Packed With Tech: If Barbie Designed a Hairdryer This Would Be It

If Barbie designed a hair dryer (not really hypothetical, given how high-performing she is!), it might just be the pretty-in-pink, Laifen SE 2. Or, it mini sidekick. While we’ll get to how these sleek, high-tech tools are engineered with cutting-edge innovation to bring salon-worthy results straight to your bathroom bench, in a bit, can we just take a moment to appreciate their playful pastel colour way? Because, there’s a lot to love about a device that tames flyaways fast … but looks ab fab in the process!

For those out for out to level up their daily blowdry, the Laifen SE 2 is a great start. It might be dressed in pastel pink, but it’s a powerful punch that belies its fairy-floss hue. Weighing in at just 390 grams, it’s light in the hand but seriously heavy on performance. Its next-gen, three-phase brushless motor hits an impressive 108,000 RPM and blasts air at speeds up to 21.5 metres per second. This means you can achieve a full dry in minutes – one, if your hair’s short; five, if you’ve got long locks that usually demand the kind of commitment of a Barbie movie marathon.

But speed is only half the story. The SE 2 is all about smart styling too. You get five temperature settings, two air speeds, and three magnetic nozzles (to channel the words of a another iconic blonde (aka Elle Woods – they just snap into place). These include a diffuser for bounce, a concentrator for sleekness, and a smooth nozzle for a glossy finish. There’s even a Child Mode, which keeps the heat down for little ones or for your extra-fragile fringe.

Design-wise, it’s ticking all the boxes. A chic three-colour LED ring lights up to show your heat setting, it hums softly at just 59 decibels (barely louder than a whisper), and it sends out over 200 million negative ions to fight frizz and boost shine. This hair dryer doesn’t just work well – it looks so good, you’ll want to leave it out on display

Then, for those on-the-go styling moments. Or, just those travellers who really struggle to stick to a travel weight allowance, the Laifen Mini delivers a similar vibe, smaller size. This pocket-rocket weighs just 299 grams, stands a compact 22cm tall, and still spins at 110,000 RPM. Basically, it’s small but mighty, and comes ready to travel with its own chic case.

While it’s a touch more playful in Jungle Green and Glacier Blue, it’s still packed with all the performance perks of its big sister: think ion-infused airflow that releases over 200 million negative ions to reduce frizz for smooth shiny hair, child mode (aka a gentle setting that uses cooler temperatures for kids delicate hair – max temp 48), three-colour LED temperature ring, to indicate temperature setting whilst drying and styling and noise reduction technology to bring the sound level to 61dB so its whisper quiet

According to stylist and salon owner Paloma Rose Garcia, the hype is real. “I’m obsessed. They’re light, they dry my clients’ hair super quick and they’re so easy to style with. What I love most is the temperature control – max heat is just 80°C so there’s no damage or dehydration.”

Laifen’s founder Hongxin Ye agrees. “It’s always been the brand’s mission to create products designed to make daily life easier,” he says. And with the SE 2 and Mini, that mission comes wrapped in soft pastels and packed with powerhouse tech.

Laifen will release the SE 2 hairdryer on 17 July 2025 at JB Hi-Fi and online, pricing it at $299. It will be available in Pastel White and Pastel Pink The Mini, at $199, is available in Jungle Green and Glacier Blue.
