The Power Of An Uniform

I didn’t realise the power behind a uniform at the time – men will fantasise about you, and women will secretly be jealous of you. I have to admit as soon as I slipped into my uniform my attitude changed from a spontaneous young woman to a very professional one. Through this uniform, I was representing my skills and professionalism, the airline I was working for, and while travelling overseas, my uniform represented my country.

The Ugly Side Of Working Long Hours

I loved working as a flight attendant. Back then it was good money and it gave me the opportunity to visit countries I normally won’t go to for holidays, like Ouganda, Tchad, Iceland, or Russia, the travel opportunities were endless. However constantly being on planes, jet lagged and tired are not great ingredients for finding a partner. 

When I first told my ex-boyfriend what I did for a living, he reacted straight away: “Great, I can invite my mates while you’re away to watch soccer!” After 6 months of living together, every time I was passing through the door with my uniform and suitcase, he screamed, “You’re leaving again, I never see you!” The relationship didn’t last. The truth is, when you wear a uniform for work there’s a big chance you work unusually long hours and you are sometimes away for days.

As for me, despite the incredible number of people I was meeting through my job, I had very little time to date. Most pilots and flight attendants will tend to date people who do the same job because they are more tolerant about the long working hours.

Back to today, with the boom of dating websites, we have more choices to pick the right partner without even leaving the house (well almost) – just by clicking and flirting behind a computer screen.

Amy explains, “We asked Australian uniform wearers about their personality traits and they describe themselves as trustworthy and loyal, which is what everyone wants in a partner!”
