A new Australian film will be on our screens on June 24th, all about an Aussie family adventure in the outback. Called Buckley’s Chance, the film stars well-known British actor, Bill Nighy, alongside Milan Burch who plays the role of the young boy, Ridley, and a new screen star – a dingo called Buckley.
After the loss of his father, Ridley is forced to move to the Australian outback to live with his estranged Grandfather (Nighy). During Ridley’s adventures, he becomes lost and befriends a dingo excluded from its own pack. A strong bond is formed as the two try to make their way home.
The film also stars beloved Australian actors Kelton Pell, Victoria Hill and Martin Sacks. Buckley’s Chance is a thrilling tale for all the family about fun, friendship and family, filmed on location in Broken Hill and the surrounding Australian outback.
The film is directed by Canadian director Tim Brown (Treasure Hounds, Devil in the Dark, Bite) and produced by Brown with Gilbert Adler (Valkyrie, Superman Returns, Constantine, House on Haunted Hill), Scott Clayton Guest House, The Driver, Joey and Ella) and Andrew Mann (Danger Close: Battle of Long Tan, Gold, The Chaperone).
Buckley’s Chance will be in Australian cinemas on Thursday 24th June…
It’s confirmed – Loki is gender fluid
Yes, it’s been confirmed Loki – God of Mischief – is gender fluid. Loki started streaming this week on Disney+ and new episodes are released each Wednesday. Loki actor, Tom Hiddleston, has said he welcomed Marvel Studios’ decision to address the popular villain’s gender fluidity in this series.
At a screening in London on last week, Hiddleston noted Loki had been portrayed as gender-fluid in Marvel comic books as well as in Norse mythology, where the character originated.
As well, Walt Disney Co released a clip from the new series and briefly showed a prisoner file listing Loki’s sex as “fluid.”
“It’s always been there,” Hiddleston said in an interview at the screening. “Loki as a character has had such a broad-ranging and wide-ranging identity. He’s always been a character you could never put in a box, you could never pin down.”
“I was really pleased we were able to touch on that in the series,” the British actor added.
In this new series, Loki steps out of his brother’s shadow, after events from Avengers: Endgame.
Owen Wilson co-stars as TVA agent Mobius M. Mobius, who enlists Loki’s help in finding a killer who is disrupting the timeline. Wilson said he had not watched many Marvel films and relied on “Loki Lectures” from Hiddleston to help him understand the character.
“A lot of the way that we sort of play off each other sort of began in kind of just talking about stuff in those early days,” Wilson said.
Loki started streaming this week on Disney+ and new episodes are released each Wednesday…
Bo Burnham’s Inside is now streaming on Netflix
A new comedy special shot and performed by Bo Burnham, alone, over the course of the past year, is called Inside and it’s now streaming on Netflix. The special has captured what no-one else seems to have been able to – which is to express something meaninful about what happened during the COVID pandemic.
Burnham’s brand new comedy special has received near universal acclaim, with critics declaring it “a masterpiece”, “one of the most sincere artistic responses to the 21st century so far”, and “an inspiring artistic achievement.”
Who is Bo Burnham? Well, he played Carey Mulligan’s love interest in Promising Young Woman and he also wrote and directed the 2018 film Eighth Grade.
He got his first break on YouTube back in 2006 when he uploaded a video of himself singing a song in order to share it with his family. YouTube had only been around for a year but Burnham gathered some fans and soon had a following.
So now, at a time where many people have been isolated in their homes, Burnham was inspired to make this special. He operated the cameras, he did the lighting, he wrote the show and performed it to nobody.
What makes Inside so good is the fact it’s an honest look at what happens when humanity is in crisis. It’s about a year where the only ‘outside’ for hundreds of millions of people around the world was the Internet.
It’s real and it’s terrifying. As Burnham says, in his own words, “Apathy’s a tragedy and boredom is a crime.” To find out more about this one and a half hour special, you can watch it on Netflix.

Raya and the Last Dragon is now streaming on Disney+
Looking for something for the kids to watch which has the right messages? Well, Raya and the Last Dragon scored 4 out of 5 stars on CommonSense Media and was rated as OK for those 8 and over so that’s good news.
Raya and the Last Dragon is an animated Disney adventure about a warrior princess on a mission. Set in the fictional land of Kumandra but based on real Southeast Asian cultures, the movie follows Raya (voiced by Kelly Marie Tran), who for years has tried to find a way to reverse a scary, curse-like plague known as the Druun, which takes the form of relentless purple-and-black blob monsters and turns anyone it touches into stone.
Awkwafina co-stars as the voice of Sisu, the last surviving dragon, whom Raya recruits to help in her quest. Grief is a major theme of the movie, and several characters talk about the loved ones taken by the Druun, including children who’ve lost parents and entire families. Scary sequences involve characters fleeing for their lives from various dangerous situations, including both human enemies and the Druun.
There are intense close-up fights with swords/blades, and a skeleton is visible in one sequence. In another scene, a main character is struck by an arrow and presumed dead. In one very emotional scene, characters willingly sacrifice themselves to the Druun; young viewers may believe they’re dead. The movie emphasises the importance of trusting others and overcoming prejudice to find common ground.
