Today, automotive company Jaguar unveiled its third electric gaming sports car in the video game Gran Turismo 7, the Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo Roadster. This release comes after the success of the previous virtual models, the Gran Turismo Coupé and the Gran Turismo SV endurance racer.
The electric single-seater draws inspiration from the Jaguar D-type with its open cockpit. There are three motors generating a total output of more than 750kW. It then makes sense how it can accelerate to 100km/h in under two seconds. Its maximum speed also reaches in excess of 310 km/h, an impressive feat.
Not only does the sports car have incredible stats, but it also has the looks to match. The body of the car is crafted from carbon-fibre composites and advanced aluminium alloys. Powering the motors is a lithium-ion battery placed low down in the structure, creating a 50:50 weight distribution. This gives the car incredible stability and agility on the course. The interior follows the same pattern, with lightweight materials allowing for great all-around visibility. The driver sits in a prime position allowing for great control.
Oliver Cattell-Ford, Exterior Designer, Jaguar Advanced Design, said: “As a car designer, being part of the team that has delivered three virtual cars for the Gran Turismo series has been a dream project. Since the reveal of the Vision GT Coupé in 2019 and Vision GT SV in 2020, we wanted to curate the perfect way to present the full line-up of the three cars together when we revealed the Roadster – Gran Turismo 7 is the perfect way to do it.”
