Retail giant Amazon will be launching in Australia soon and 500 Australian local businesses have already signed up to sell when it goes live.

Hello Australia! – Amazon

First up, there will be an Amazon Marketplace Seller Summit in Sydney on November 13. This free event will teach local merchants how they can utilise Amazon Australia’s marketplace to set up and grow their own online businesses.

Education is the key for a successful online business claims SMEA board member Mark Flack. “The reality is that there’s a lot of education that needs to happen amongst the small business community when it comes to being digitally savvy and using the right tools to take their businesses to the next level,” he added.

In July, it was also revealed that Amazon Australia was opening its first warehouse in Eastern Melbourne, however, the company still has not released an official announcement when they would start the operation.

KoalaSafe’s co-founder Adam Mills, a startup in Queensland, will be speaking at the Summit. His company’s story has been successful in the US selling its child-safe internet monitoring device online resulting in partnership with Target to creating a physical sales deal with the retail chain.

Mills said that Amazon provides opportunities to businesses who are selling physical products and encouraged businesses to take full advantage of it once it opens in Australia.

Rocco Braeuniger, Amazon Australia Country Manager and Fabio Bertola, Head of Amazon Marketplace in Australia will also attend the half-day conference.

Braeuniger said that the internet has the power to level the playing field between big and small businesses and that it allows Australian merchants to reach markets beyond their locality.

Members from different Australian business association are excited about this big news and the upcoming event, said ARA Executive Director Russell Zimmerman.

“We believe that Amazon’s arrival brings new possibilities to Australian retailers, small and large. We are pleased to work alongside Amazon to bring the Seller Summit to Sydney so that businesses and retailers alike can receive practical advice and guidance on how to make the most of Amazon Marketplace.”
