If you’re an AFL fan then you’ll love to hear the AFLW Official App has finally launched ahead of the 2018 competition, after Telstra secured the rights to live stream all AFLW matches.
The Official AFLW app will carry live streams of all matches live, fast – and for Telstra mobile customers the games will be data-free.
Telstra saw unprecedented demand by sports-mad fans live streaming their favourite sporting games in 2017, with the audience subscribing to Telstra’s sporting apps increasing 346 per cent throughout the year, to over 1.5 million.
Joe Pollard, Telstra’s Group Executive Media and Chief Marketing Officer, said: “In partnership with the AFL we are committed to growing the AFL’s elite women’s competition and as part of that commitment, making the live games available to as many fans as possible, and building this new sports streaming audience is key.”
The AFLW Official App is separate to the AFL Live app which provides live stream access to the men’s competition to Telstra customers and paid subscribers.
AFL General Manager Growth, Digital and Audiences, Darren Birch, said the AFLW Official App is about bringing fans closer to the game.
“The AFLW Official App is about the new fan experience. The app is designed to bring AFLW fans closer to the players and their journeys, help fans plan their visit to the grounds, and guide them through the rules of the game and the on-field action,” Darren Birch added.
“The app also allows us to extend the AFLW story beyond the eight-week competition with unique player content and news throughout the year ahead.”
The new AFLW Official app features live streams of every game in the home and away and finals series, live scores and stats, news, player profiles and social media updates. The app will also guide users who are new to the game through the rules of AFLW and footy definitions, provide venue locations, directions and what to expect at a game, as well as club information enabling fans to learn their club song, become a member and buy merchandise.
“The enhanced experience Telstra is providing will give AFLW fans more reason to interact with the sport both during the 2018 NAB AFL Women’s Competition, and keep them engaged during the off season with ongoing news and player updates, training tips for kids and rising stars and health and lifestyle content,” said Joe Pollard.
In addition to the dedicated AFLW Official App enabling live streaming on mobile devices, Telstra has also secured the rights to live stream matches through the AFL app on Telstra TV, enabling full screen TV viewing for Telstra TV customers from the start of the AFLW season on 2 February.
The new AFLW Official App is now available for download through the App Store and Google Play store.
