Two female leaders in Arianna Huffington, author, columnist, co-founder of the Huffington Post, and founder of Thrive Global; and former Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, connected to speak about leadership, mental health and optimism during this time.

“We have to use this time as a catalyst for building a world better, more fair and more compassionate, then the world we are leaving behind,”

said Arianna Huffington

As part of Optus’s #GDayADay initiative – which aims to encourage social interaction and positivity – several Australian icons including the likes of Australian racing driver, Daniel Ricciardo, Olympic gold medallist, Ian Thorpe, and Journalist Mia Freedman among others, checked up on one another via video call during these stressful times. You can watch Ian Thorpe in conversation with Edwina McCann of Vogue in the below video:

For its last instalment, Arianna Huffington spoke with Julia Gillard to specifically focus on their own coping mechanisms, the importance of empathy and teamwork in leadership, how emphasising wellness and mental health can do a world of good, and how “we have to use this time as a catalyst for building a world better, more fair, and more compassionate, then the world we are leaving behind.”

“At the heart of this campaign is the idea of staying connected and optimistic, especially in uncertain times. These two inspiring women, who have had such an impact on politics, media, business and wellness, are the perfect finale for optimism as we move toward recovery,” said Mel Hopkins, Head of Consumer Marketing at Optus.
