In a timely launch ahead of International Women’s Day (IWD) this Saturday, Sydney-based startup EvenBetter.ai has introduced an AI-driven platform to assist businesses in addressing gender pay gaps with data-driven actions.

Co-founded by Sorrel Kesby and Ayal Steiner, the launch coincides with the release of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) report, which now publicly discloses the gender pay gaps of over 9,000 Australian companies. While traditional pay gap reporting captures a single company-level measure, it often fails to consider factors such as talent availability, market conditions, and seniority. EvenBetter.ai aims to identify the underlying causes of pay gaps and provide actionable insights for reducing them effectively.

Sorrel Kesby

“The gender pay gap in Australia exceeds 20%, and while many businesses invest considerable time in collecting and reporting their gender pay gap data, they often lack the technology to derive meaningful actions from the information,” said Sorrell Kesby. “Companies that fail to address their gender pay gap risk falling behind those that take proactive steps. Businesses that act early demonstrate their commitment to fostering a fair and equitable workplace.”

“We are a technology company focused on providing solutions for companies to address gender pay disparities,” added Ayal Steiner. “Currently, no platform integrates the collection, analysis, and recommendation of data-driven actions for closing the pay gap. We provide deeper insights into the factors contributing to gender pay disparities, enabling businesses to make informed, strategic decisions.”

AI: The Tech Behind It

EvenBetter has developed a proprietary AI model to organize and standardize raw pay data, utilizing market benchmarks to deliver precise, personalized analysis within the relevant context. The platform generates data-driven insights and suggestions based on a methodology that considers various dimensions such as:

  • Market talent structure to analyze gender availability
  • Diversity analysis to identify representation gaps
  • Leadership examination to address disparities in career progression
  • Pay equality identification to pinpoint inequities with actionable solutions

EvenBetter.ai has already secured clients such as Knight Frank and FujiFilm Australia. “EvenBetter’s approach to managing gender pay is what we require,” said Knight Frank Chief People Officer Kristin Hay. “Creating basic reports that quickly become outdated is costly. We need timely, targeted insights to inform our decision-making process.”

Industry experts have acknowledged EvenBetter.ai’s methodology for delivering clear, evidence-based recommendations. “EvenBetter employs a comprehensive and sophisticated methodology to analyze and interpret Gender Pay Gap data,” stated Professor Geni Dechter from UNSW’s School of Economics. “Their capability to identify and quantify the drivers of a company’s gender pay gap by isolating factors such as market talent availability, hiring and promotion biases, and pay equality issues is unique.”

“Reducing the gender pay gap is a goal for many companies,” said Jacqueline Chow, director at Coles, NIB, and Charter Hall. “However, I have observed businesses making decisions that lack data support, resulting in ineffective or counterproductive outcomes. EvenBetter’s platform equips leadership teams with the necessary data and insights to effectively reduce the gender pay gap.”

As we observe IWD, it’s great to see tech supporting gender equality and what we love is how EvenBetter.ai offers tools and insights to address workplace inequities and promote fair, sustainable workplaces.
