Interview: Alex Jia Jun Teh, CEO/Founder of Futurizta Tech

We chatted with Alex Jia Jun from Futurizta Tech about their successfully funded Chimera 5-in-1 cable.

Can you tell us about Futurizta Tech?

Futurizta initially started in 2017 as a platform for exploring and sharing our passion for new tech and gadgets. Our company’s vision and goal are simple, to “futurize” your life by connecting you with innovative gadgets that make life easier and convenient.

Fast forward to 2019, our goal and vision remain the same but our dreams got bigger. Futurizta is now a Tech Company which innovates gadgets from listening and tending to consumers’ needs. We hold on to a core belief that futuristic means to have more out of something simplistic. Futurizta strives to be at the forefront of Tech Industries that “futurize” your life.

What motivated you to produce the Chimera 5-in-1 cable?

I am a gadget enthusiast myself, and I own tons of different gadgets ranging from a smartphone, power bank, wireless headphones, Bluetooth speakers and more. All of these are essential in making my life more enjoyable and more productive. However, they need to be charged constantly! What’s even more annoying?

They all have different charging interface which means I have to carry 3-4 charging cables on the go- which is very inconvenient. This inspired me to come up with the idea of having one cable that can solve this issue perfectly, which is to have a cable with 3 essential charging interfaces capable of charging 90% gadgets on the market.

But this 3-in-1 idea wasn’t good enough, I want it to be more innovative and futuristic. As we know, USB-C is dubbed as the USB standard of the future, we can see that big company like Apple, Samsung, Huawei are slowly releasing devices with USB-C interface. This inspired me to add a USB-C on the other end to future-proof this cable while still keeping the USB-A adapter for maximum versatility.

How does the fast charging work?

Our Chimera Cable is fitted with a high-quality thick copper core, which is capable of carrying more current than other conventional cables. It can support up to 5V/2.4A which is 140% faster than the conventional 1A cables.

Why did you name it Chimera?

The Chimera cable is named after a mythical beast Chimera which has a significant meaning and representation to the cable we made. Chimera is a mythical beast which is said to have three heads and two tails which is also a snake, their appearance inspired us and gave us the idea of our cable – Three heads (Lightning, Micro-USB, USB-C) and two tails (USB-C and USB-A), just like its mythical counterpart.

What’s the best Kickstarter advice you have ever received?

The best Kickstarter advice I have ever received is from the Kickstarter Forum, where creators share their ideas and success story. All of them shared a common characteristic, which is to be passionate about what you do and never give up no matter what happens. Success is reserved for people who are willing to put in the effort and believe in themselves.

What is the favourite part of your job? What’s the most challenging?

Watching how a draft design transforms into a working prototype and then finally become a perfect product capable of making people’s life easier, this is the favourite part of my job. The R&D process and result is surely satisfying but at the same time, it is very tedious as it involves tons of energy and time in order to make a real working product.

Do you have any role models in your industry?

I personally love Microsoft and I think they are one of the best companies out there, I genuinely admire their vision to empower every person and every organisation on the planet to achieve more. They are my role model and I wish one-day Futurizta Tech will be able to do something similar, to help people achieve more with advanced technology and gadgets.

How do you stay on top of the latest trends and technologies?

I subscribe to multiple Tech Channels on Youtube and also read technology news every day via Flipboard, The Verge, Engadget etc.

How do think technology is going to change people’s lives?

I believe technology is very crucial and the advancement in technology will definitely make people’s life much easier and more convenient. With new technology, people can achieve more and get things done more efficiently than ever before.

Do you have any plans for the future?

I am planning to introduce the Chimera 5-in-1 Cable to the world so it can benefit and help more people who have a similar problem. I am currently planning to ship the cables to Amazon warehouses in the US, UK and AU immediately so people in those countries can buy it and receive it as soon as possible. I am also planning to promote and sell it to retail stores such as JB-HiFi and Harvey Norman. This process will definitely be difficult and tedious but I believe with my passion and hard work, I might be able to achieve my dream.

Besides expanding the Chimera cable to the world, I am also planning to invent another innovative cable, an upgraded version of the Chimera cable which utilises the latest and best cable available right now – Thunderbolt 3. This innovative cable will have all the function of the Chimera Cable, but it can do much more! e.g. 100W power delivery, 40GB/S transfer speed, External GPU connection, Capable of Fast Charging(18W) 3 devices at once using just one power source.  This super powerful cable is still under development, but I believe people will definitely love it when it came out!
