Everyone loves a manicure. The fresh polish, the hour of quiet, the phone face-down for once. It’s everything around it. Finding a slot that doesn’t clash with work, circling for parking, and watching a full day quietly lose two hours that is a little less fun.
That’s the idea behind Pampa an Australian app dubbed the “Uber of beauty” that brings vetted beauty and wellness professionals to your home or office. Founder Michelle Irani launched the app in Sydney this month after years of juggling a busy career and young children made her realise that beauty appointments often cater to people with time to spare.
The pitch is simple: beauty should fit around your life, not the other way around. You choose your treatment from the salon’s or therapist’s existing service menu, pick a time that suits you, and the appointment comes to you. Manicures, facials, hair and makeup are all on the menu, so a pre-dinner blow-dry or a lunch-break mani no longer means leaving the building. Personal trainers and yoga instructors will join over the coming months as Pampa expands into new states, with plans to reach every major Australian city within the next 18 months. Which means a facial and a stretch could soon happen in the same living room.
“Every other part of our lives has moved to on-demand, yet booking a great therapist still means working around travel and limited availability,” says Irani. “Pampa brings beauty in line with the way people actually live now.”
Inviting someone into your home takes trust, so the vetting is thorough. Pampa verifies each therapist’s identity through Persona, a leading third-party provider, and checks their ABN before registration. The app also assesses their work and communication standards and requires each therapist to hold their own public liability insurance for at-home appointments. It’s the unglamorous side of the app, and the reason you can lie back and enjoy the treatment.
The professionals get a good deal too. Therapists set their own availability and decide how far they’re happy to travel. So, they can turn a quiet Tuesday afternoon into paid bookings. Salons stay in control as well, choosing which hours are bookable through the app and opening or closing availability as needed. Pampa charges therapists no commission and no fees. Clients pay a small service fee on top of the treatment, so every dollar of the treatment price goes to the therapist. As a premium convenience service, professionals are encouraged to set their rates accordingly, and the app gives them a new channel to reach clients beyond their existing base. In an industry where flexibility and fair pay don’t always come together, that stands out.
Pampa is live now on the App Store. Book the manicure, the blow-dry or the facial you keep pushing to next week, and let the glow-up come to you.Because looking and feeling your best shouldn’t depend on a free Saturday.
