A Red Hot Tech Solution To “Surfing The Crimson Wave”

Whether you refer to it as Aunty Flo, that time of month, or the Crimson Wave (a la Clueless), no amount of cheeky euphemisms can change the fact that periods are generally a real pain in the you-know-where. The good news is an Aussie made creator is giving females with flow the green flag to skip the Scarlett Storm – or more specifically, offering a solution to PMS pain points though a tech-centric strategy designed to soothe cramps and the crankiness that often accompanies them. (Efficacy on chocolate cravings still TBC!)

A Rae of hope

While the battle against premenstrual tension can feel like an uphill one, Rae is the wireless heat pad determined to prove otherwise by to easing the pain and raise the bar for period self-care.

Credit for the creation goes to Jo Barry, the innovative mind behind Aussie brand Scarlet, who was worked out a way to offer relief that is just a (rechargeable) click away. No more burning your hands with scalding water bottles or risking your heating pads combusting mid-cramp!

Jo’s journey started with a simple, yet profound question: “Isn’t there a better way?” Like many menstruators before her, Jo had been relying on disposable stick-on heat packs for years, desperately trying to make her period cramps more bearable. But there was something that didn’t sit right with her. Sure, those heat packs offered temporary relief, but the environmental impact? Not so much. “I was truly concerned about the waste,” Jo says, adding that there’s no judgment for those who use them, but she knew there had to be a smarter, more sustainable way.

Jo had also been frustrated by the quality of reusable heating devices on the market. Clunky, unreliable, and often unregulated, these devices were often downright risky. “You lived your life waiting for them to burst into flames,” Jo quips. Not exactly the spa-like experience anyone wants when trying to relax and find relief, right?

After three years of tinkering, testing, and trialling with a team of creative minds in Melbourne, the result was Rae – a game-changer in period care.

Why this heat pad is a hot topic

Rae is not your average heating pad. Designed to be sleek, wireless, and completely rechargeable, this innovation is revolutionising how women soothe those painful cramps. It offers three soothing heat settings, reaching up to a toasty 50 degrees Celsius for maximum comfort. And with a USB charging capability, you can get up to four hours of heat therapy on the go. So, no more waiting for the kettle to boil while you curse at the clock.

But Rae’s cool factor doesn’t stop at just being cordless. It’s splash-proof and slim enough to slide discreetly under your clothes without any noticeable lumps. So you can go about your day feeling comfortable, confident, and cramp-free.

Plus, Rae is designed to meet the highest health and safety certifications in Australia, the UK, and Europe. So you can rest easy knowing it’s as safe as it is effective. No more worrying about heating up a questionable wheat bag or hoping your hot water bottle doesn’t turn into a disaster zone.

A problem solver for PMS pain. Period!

Jo and her team at Scarlet are on a mission to help those who bleed feel better, in every sense of the word. “The idea of helping someone during their period motivates us to our core,” says Jo, and that passion shines through in every aspect of Rae’s design. And, at just $129, solution to PMS pain is a relatively affordable one.
