Craftsy has a range of short online craft courses ideal for filling in your weekend or spare time.

The website hosts 1,500 classes from a range of experts. Project courses include coffee shop cakes, quick quilted gifts, Fair Isle Fundamentals, sewing wallets, crochet in the round, Asian dumplings, thank-you cards and live streaming events.

The courses currently cover:

  • Fabric crafts – quilting, sewing, embroidery
  • Yarn crafts – knitting, crocheting, weaving and spinning
  • Food – cake decorating, baking, cooking
  • Art – drawing, painting, photography, papercraft, jewellery making
  • Living – home décor, gardening, woodworking, writing, fitness, fun for kids

You can filter the courses by content access (gold, premium, purchased, free), price and content topic, or search by keyword.

The ‘free’ courses covered a range of topics including Mad About Cake, Midnight Quilt Show and Off Our Needles. (Note: You must pay a membership to gain access to the ‘free’ courses).

I joined up with a Premium membership which essentially just gives you access to the website and then 62 free courses. This gives you special offers on classes, and the ability to view content on your PC, Roku, FireTV, or mobile device.

You can purchase courses to keep – be careful that you don’t purchase courses that are already part of your membership.

I enjoyed two courses and watched them both one evening. They were both an hour-long and broken up into smaller segments if you need to take a break or come back another day.

Pros

  • Good range of courses and trainers were professional
  • The website is easy to use and the course is easy to navigate
  • Handouts included with materials and equipment required

Cons

  • Email newsletter ended up being rather spammy

Craftsy is an enjoyable way to get creative with an online class taken by an expert. It’s perfect if you’re stuck at home and want an enjoyable way to fill in an evening or weekend.
