I’m highly annoyed with Australian radios which I used to listen mostly when I drive. Too many stupid commercials, too much talking about nothing interesting, and exactly the same news on different stations. I’m so over it! If you are like me but still love listening then it’s time to make a big switch!
It’s Time To Break Up With Your Radio And Listen Podcasts!
What is A Podcast?
A podcast is a digital medium consisting of an episodic series of audio, digital radio, PDF, or ePub files subscribed to and downloaded through web syndication or streamed online to a computer or mobile device. The word is a neologism and portmanteau derived from “broadcast” and “pod” from the success of the iPod, as audio podcasts are often listened to on portable media players. (Ref: Wikipedia)
How Does It Work?
You can access it on your computer via iTunes by clicking on Podcast in the drop-down menu, subscribe and click what you want to listen. There is an infinite list of podcasts you can listen to.
Podcasts for Android
There is also an app for Android users the best is Podcast Addict – Free – Google Play. It’s free and received over 67,000 reviews.
Advantages of Podcasts
It should be free of commercials (if there are any they are short) and you can listen to the end without interruption. The other advantage of Podcasts it keep your hands free from doing something else, like cooking, sending emails or walking the dog! One more thing, most podcasts are free!
My Favourite Podcast: Serial – Free – iTunes
Serial is trending worldwide as number one on Top Podcasts in Australia as well as the US, Canada and the UK (as well as other markets). Serial unfolds one story – a true story – over the course of a whole season. The show follows the plot and characters wherever they lead, through many surprising twists and turns.
Serial is the fastest podcast reaching 5 million downloads and streams in the history of iTunes (pretty impressive right?)! Podcasts have been trending again in popularity and you might also be keen to know that Podcasts on iTunes launched in the summer of 2005 and next year is the 10-year anniversary of podcasts on iTunes. We expect that customers will listen to a record 7 billion podcasts via iTunes and iOS devices this year alone. Also of note, Apple released a standalone podcasts app in 2012, and podcasts are available with the Podcasts app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or on Apple TV, Mac or PC.
The Success of Podcasts
• Podcasts are available to customers in 155 countries and we surpassed one billion podcast subscriptions last year.
• Over 285,000 podcasts are available on iTunes, 9.2 million episodes in over 100 languages.
• More than 8 million episodes of audio, video, enhanced audio and documents are available to customers.
Say stop to rubbish radio, and take control of what you want to listen to with Podcasts.
