Tinder is getting serious about online dating safety. Because, your love life deserves more than just vibes and vague bios. Last Thursday, the app that almost single-handedly invented Gen-Z romance brought its Tinder Verified QT activation to the University of New South Wales (UNSW), with a mission to help students level up their dating game with a pop-up that was part profile makeover, part safety masterclass. And, totally match-worthy.

The event, backed by Match Group’s Senior VP of Trust & Safety, Yoel Roth gave students the tools to level up from “random uni hottie” to “certified QT with a blue checkmark.” Because, when it comes to dating, safety isn’t just sexy – it’s essential.

At the booth, students got the ultimate dating glow-up. Including:

  • A professional profile shoot with Cybele Malinowski (photographer to the stars and now, theirTinder pics.)
  • Expert bio therapy from dating coach Sera Bozza, who knows the difference between “just vibing” and actually putting effort into your profile prompt.
  • And, the inside scoop on how to score that Verified QT badge via Tinder’s ID + Photo Verification. (Which Sera Bozza Broke down into three simple steps below.)

1. Click to tick. In your profile settings, tap on the outlined photo or ID image, next to your name and age. Then on the ID + Photo Verification pop-up to start the verification process.

2. Mapping the mug. Remove any hats, sunglasses, and face coverings before following the prompts to take your video selfie and verify your profile photos. Tip: Make sure you’re in a well-lit space so the camera can capture all your features. But, avoid any harsh glare and backlighting. If your photos are already verified, you will be able to skip this step!

3. IDing the ID.  Once Photo Verified, follow the prompts to upload a government-approved ID, i.e. your driver’s licence or passport. The tool will then focus on both age and likeness to check the photo on the ID matches the face in the Photo Verification feature and your profile photos, and also check your date of birth.

4. Done and ready to date. Blue checkmark and Verified QT status secured!

The activation wasn’t just about good lighting and better bios. At its heart, Tinder Verified QT champions the power of ID + Photo Verification – a two-step process that links your profile to your real-world self using a video selfie and a government-issued ID. The result? That elusive blue tick, signalling to matches that you are exactly who you say you are. No catfish. No creeps. Just confidence.

According to Yoel, “The verification badge is a really critical part of what safety means when using Tinder. It lets users know the person they’re chatting with is who they say they are. And, gives people the confidence to take things offline.”

If you’ve ever been catfished, breadcrumbed, or matched with someone whose “six-foot” claim didn’t quite stack up in person, then you know why this matters. Verified QT is Tinder’s way of saying Filters, fakery and foot pics from your uncle’s burner account can not be found here!

Here’s the TL;DR: You do a quick video selfie. You upload a legit ID. Tinder checks that your photos match your face and your doc. Boom – blue tick, unlocked.

And, if that wasn’t enough to heat up your cold, dead dating app, Tinder also just launched Tinder U in Australia. It’s a campus-only swipe sesh that makes it easier to match with fellow uni singles. So, your next crush might literally be sitting two rows down in your tute. What a plot twist.

The whole activation was giving “secure the credit and the cutie” energy. Students left with profile pics that slap, bios that don’t give “dry,” and the reassurance that their matches are who they say they are – not some anonymous K-pop prince’s pic with no socials and a dodgy vibe. But, the biggest swipe-away? When it comes to dating, Tinder Verified QT wants to help students swipe right on safety when it comes to online dating.
