DJI Launches The Neo 2: The Ultimate “Follow-Me” Drone That Fits In Your Hand

If you’ve ever scrolled through Instagram and wondered how everyone seems to have a personal cinematographer following them on their morning run or family beach trip, the secret is out—and it just got a whole lot easier to use.

For a long time, drones felt like “boys’ toys” … complicated, heavy, and requiring a pilot’s license just to get off the ground. But at Women Love Tech, we love it when technology becomes accessible, intuitive, and genuinely fun. That is exactly what DJI has delivered with the newly launched DJI Neo 2.

Weighing in at just 151g, this featherlight gadget is designed to be the ultimate “follow-me” camera. It literally takes off and lands in the palm of your hand, meaning you can say goodbye to bulky remote controllers and complicated setups.

From Hollywood to Handbags: The Drone Revolution

It’s hard to believe that not so long ago, aerial cinematography was the exclusive domain of big-budget Hollywood studios using helicopters. Today, that cinematic language has trickled down to our smartphones. Culturally, we are seeing a massive shift in how we view the world; the “God’s eye view” that was once rare is now a staple of wedding videos, travel vlogs, and even weekend picnics.

But drones have evolved into something far more vital than just tools for pretty pictures. In Australia, we are seeing them deployed for incredible “tech-for-good” initiatives. Surf Life Saving clubs are using them to spot sharks and keep swimmers safe, while conservationists are using thermal drones to track migrating whales, endangered koalas and wallabies in dense bushland without disturbing their habitats.

The Neo 2 taps into this spirit of intelligent autonomy. It is a flying camera and a smart robot that gives you a bird’s view of the world around you.

What The Neo 2 Can Do

The standout feature of the Neo 2 is its omnidirectional obstacle sensing. For beginners, the fear of crashing is the number one barrier to entry. This new system, combined with a propeller guard, means the drone can navigate complex environments like flying between trees in a park or around furniture indoors with confidence.

What appeals to me is that it’s built for the creator economy but simplified for the everyday user. So watch out for more exciting videos on our Instagram & TikTok feeds.

  • Palm Take-off & Landing: You simply point it at yourself, press a button, and it lifts off. When you’re done, it uses the “Return-to-Palm” feature to land gently back in your hand.
  • Gesture & Voice Control: You can control the angle, distance, and movement just by waving your hands or speaking commands via your smartphone. No remote required.
  • Smart Tracking: The improved ActiveTrack allows the drone to follow you at speeds up to 12m/s. Whether you are cycling, running, or just chasing the kids, it keeps you in the frame automatically.

Cinematic Content in a Snap

The camera specs are perfect for social sharing. It packs a 12MP sensor capable of shooting 4K video at 100fps, which is perfect for those dreamy slow-motion shots. It also supports vertical video straight out of the camera, so your footage is TikTok and Reels ready without any cropping.

For those solo travellers or mums trying to get in the family photo rather than just taking it, the SelfieShot feature is a game-changer. It automatically frames you for waist-up or full-body shots without needing a tripod or a stranger’s help.

Price and Availability

The best part? It fits into a modest budget as easily as it fits into a handbag.

The DJI Neo 2 is available to order now in Australia:

  • DJI Neo 2 (Drone Only): $409 AUD
  • DJI Neo 2 Fly More Combo: $709 AUD
