Unless you’ve been living under a roc… err rug … you’ve probably noticed the pesky cost-of-living problem. And despite my best efforts to “lay low” and simply exist this Winter, I have not been spared….
First, came the coat. Warm enough to survive Antarctica, priced as though it had actually been there. Then, there was a quick escape to Thailand in pursuit of sunshine and Vitamin D after one too many bleak mornings convinced me I was, in fact, solar-powered. And, because my beloved evening walks had been rained out for most of the season, I even signed up for a temporary gym membership. Whether that particular investment has delivered much of a return remains… open for discussion.
Needless to say, by the time I looked around my house, anything that wasn’t an immediate necessity had quietly slipped to the bottom of the priority list.
Including my poor winter rug.
It had endured months of muddy shoes, snack crumbs, and the kind of daily foot traffic that slowly turns “soft and cosy” into “slightly concerning.” Every time I walked past it, I thought, You deserve better. Every time I opened my banking app, it politely reminded me that replacing it simply wasn’t happening this season.
What I needed wasn’t a new rug.
I needed my existing one to remember who she used to be.
Conveniently, that’s about the same time the new BISSELL CleanView HydroSteam arrived.
Designed to revive carpets, rugs and upholstery rather than send you shopping for replacements, the newest addition to BISSELL’s deep-cleaning line-up promises professional-level results from the comfort of home. Better still, it brings the same HydroSteam Technology found in the brand’s premium Revolution HydroSteam model, but at a friendlier $799 price point. (That’s also available widely at all leading electrical retailers.)
Given the current state of both my rug and my wallet, I was listening.
Steam, water and a little bit of magic
At its heart, the CleanView HydroSteam combines steam, water and BISSELL’s cleaning formula into one cleaning system. The steam works to loosen stubborn dirt before the brushes get to work lifting it away.
Think of it as giving your carpet the equivalent of a long facial, deep tissue massage and detox – all at once.
According to BISELL, HydroSteam Technology delivers up to 40 per cent better cleaning on stubborn messes compared to using non-steam mode alone. Marketing claims aside, what impressed me most wasn’t necessarily the science. It was just how effortlessly the machine seemed to erase months of everyday life.
My rug had… seen things
Winter has a funny way of creeping into your home.
There’s the dirt tracked in from rainy afternoons. The coffee you swear you didn’t spill. The popcorn kernels that somehow multiply beneath the coffee table. Add the occasional dinner party, movie night and a few too many evenings curled up under a blanket pretending housework doesn’t exist, and my rug was looking decidedly… lived in.
The first pass with the CleanView HydroSteam was genuinely satisfying.
Watching the dirty water collect in the tank is one of those oddly addictive experiences that is equal parts horrifying and deeply rewarding. It turns out your carpet has been quietly keeping receipts for every muddy shoe and dropped snack you’ve ever forgotten about.
If you’re part of the community who will willing admit that you love the satisfaction of popping a good pimple (I see you), you’ll probably spend an embarrassingly long time inspecting the tank afterwards.
Three modes, depending on how much chaos you’re dealing with
One of my favourite features is that the machine doesn’t assume every mess deserves the same treatment.
Steam Pretreat Mode tackles stubborn stains before the main clean. This is ideal for the mystery marks that have been quietly mocking you for months.
SteamWash Max Clean Mode is the workhorse, delivering the full deep-clean treatment across carpets, rugs and upholstery.
Meanwhile, Quick Dry Mode proved surprisingly handy. BISSELL says carpets can dry in around 30 minutes, which means you don’t have to spend the rest of the day tiptoeing around damp floors wondering whether you’ve made a terrible decision.
Cleaning confidence is a dangerous thing
Once the rug was finished, I became perhaps a little too enthusiastic.
The included upholstery tools meant the dining chairs suddenly looked like fair game. Then came the couch. Then the stairs. Before long, I found myself eyeing the car interior with the sort of confidence usually reserved for people who colour-code their pantry.
The CleanView HydroSteam includes a 2-in-1 Pet Upholstery Tool, Tough Stain Tool and corner attachment, making it surprisingly versatile beyond simply cleaning carpets.
Dual DirtLifter PowerBrushes with 12 rows of bristles helped lift embedded dirt with very little effort on my part, while the generous water tank meant I could keep cleaning without constantly stopping to refill.
Thankfully, cleaning the cleaner is easy too
One thing many carpet cleaners forget to mention is that they often create another cleaning job once you’re finished.
Thankfully, BISSELL seems to have anticipated this.
The Catch & Clean tray, Rinse & Storage Tray and EZ Clean Brush Roll Cover make post-clean maintenance refreshingly straightforward. The brush cover removes easily, allowing everything to rinse clean without requiring the patience of a saint.
After spending an afternoon bringing my rug back to life, I appreciated not having to immediately wrestle with the machine afterwards.
BISSELL CleanView HydroSteam: The verdict
Is it compact enough to disappear into a tiny apartment cupboard? Not quite. Like most serious carpet cleaners, it still deserves a dedicated storage spot.
But if you’ve been looking around your home thinking everything feels just a little tired after winter, the BISSELL CleanView HydroSteam makes a compelling case for refreshing what you already own instead of replacing it.
By the end of the afternoon, my rug looked brighter, softer and remarkably closer to its former self. More importantly, it no longer looked like yet another thing demanding money from my already overworked bank account.
Winter may still have emptied my wallet.
The coat? Absolutely necessary.
The Thailand escape? Worth every cent
The gym membership? The jury’s still out.
But thanks to the BISSELL CleanView HydroSteam, at least my rug no longer looks like it also needs a holiday.
