Can an At-Home LED Device Really Help With Hair Growth?

I have been known to wear many hats… (I’m talking beanies, beach straw numbers, and boujee J.Lo-Esque floppy fedoras circa 2002). But until about 16 weeks ago, “cute cap with LED-powered Hair Growth device” was not one of them. However, in the quest for lusher locks, that’s exactly what I slapped on my scalp – specifically the Trudermal Halo LED Hair Growth System. Scepticism firmly intact, expectations cautiously low, curiosity very high.

Let’s get real: hair thinning is more common than we like to admit. For me, it crept up quietly — a little more hair in the shower drain, a ponytail that felt less… robust, and a part that seemed determined to widen without permission. Stress, hormones, postpartum changes, or just plain time can leave you wondering whe universe seems to keep mixing up your request for thinner thighs/ thicker hair.

Traditionally, fixing this has meant endless salon appointments, potions and lotions that require a small window of your life to operate, or the resignation that none of the above is actually capable of making a difference. I’ve tried the serums that smell vaguely medicinal, the supplements that promise miracles in 30 days, and the “trust the process” approach that mostly tests your patience. And was just about ready to embrace my inner Cynthia Erivo. Fortunately, someone forgot to pass the memo to Halo – a sleek, hands-free LED cap that promises the kind of clinical science you’d expect in a professional salon… but from the comfort of your own lounge. So I signed up for four months of real science without the salon chair small talk.

Trudermal Halo LED Hair Growth System

The Halo works with 180 medical-grade LEDs broadcasting clinically proven 660nm red light to stimulate dormant follicles, boost circulation, and extend the growth phase of your hair. It uses the same wavelength as professional treatments. But, is cleverly packaged into something you can use at home without booking ahead or leaving the couch. Translation: your hair gets a workout without you having to break a sweat. No tingling, no heat, no weird sensations — just a gentle red glow doing its thing.

The treatment protocol is breezy 10 minutes every other day. Which, in the grand scheme of hair maintenance, feels almost suspiciously easy. I timed it against the opening credits of The Today Sbow. And it was barely enough time to decide what to have for breakfast, let alone roll my eyes at Karl’s antics. Some days I wore it while answering emails. (Or. okay scrolling Instagram). And once or twice even while ducking into the supermarket. It’s that unobtrusive.

What sets the Halo apart is its combination of science and style. Unlike clunky alternatives that feel like a medieval torture device, this is a genuinely wearable, wireless piece of tech. No cords, no wall-hugging, no feeling like you’re tethered to an experiment. You literally pop it on, press start, and carry on with your life. I forgot I was wearing it more than once, which feels like the ultimate endorsement. And yes, it looks kind of cool- like you just stepped out of a sci-fi hair commercial. Think futuristic wellness, not Frankenstein chic.

After about three weeks, I noticed subtle improvements: reduced shedding, slightly thicker strands, and a healthier scalp texture. Nothing dramatic overnight, but enough that I stopped doing double takes at my hairbrush. By the 16-week mark, there’s been a visible difference. More volume, stronger hair, and enough shine to make me consider wearing the Halo out in public for the style cred alone. My hair feels fuller at the roots, easier to style, and noticeably more resilient — the kind of change you feel before you even fully see it.

If you want to fast-track results, Trudermal also offers the Regen Hair Growth Serum. This lightweight, copper-peptide-powered formula absorbs quickly, nourishing follicles and improving scalp health. No greasy residue, no heavy fragrance, and crucially, no need to plan your wash days around it. I paired it with the Halo, and the combined approach felt like a double shot of TLC for my hair. Like finally giving my scalp the same level of care I give my skin.

Would I recommend the Trudermal Halo LED Hair Growth System ? Absolutely! Especially if you want something that’s hands-free, clinically credible, and stylish enough to not feel like a medical device strapped to your head. It’s refreshingly low-effort for something delivering such noticeable results. It’s quick, effective, and yes, I might even call it my favourite hat right now. Which is not something I ever thought I’d say about a piece of hair tech.

So if your scalp is whispering “help me,” consider giving the Halo a go. Aim for 10 minutes, every other day, and a small red glow later, you might just find yourself waving goodbye to the hair-thinning blues.
