It’s Easter this weekend and there’s a good chance you have a bit more time to sit back and enjoy some movies. So here are a few good ideas for binge-watching some iconic movies about strong women we think you’ll enjoy or you’d like to watch again as a recap.

Hidden Figures shows the work of some brilliant women

While the male brains at NASA were hard at work racing against Russia to put a rocket man in space before the Russians this movie tells the story of three smart and savvy African-American women who were crunching the numbers and doing the math that would actually get someone to the moon.

Their names were Katherine Johnson (played by Taraji Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (played by Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (played by Janelle Monáe). Thankfully, because of this Oscar-nominated film, these three American women won’t be forgotten and we all know that the race to space was not just a male-dominated domain.

Hidden Figures is streaming on Disney+ and Amazon Prime…

Watch Reese Witherspoon in Wild

Reese Witherspoon is no stranger to good films about strong women. Just take a look at her characters Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, Tracy Enid Flick in Election and her most recent performance on The Morning Show as Bradley Jackson.

But for Wild, she took off her makeup and put on her hiking boots, so she could play Cheryl Strayed – the real-life novice who made an 1,100-mile trek up the Pacific Crest Trail solo. Watch what she achieves and enjoy.

The first Wonder Woman to kick ass for real

Patty Jenkins’s Wonder Woman stars as the DC Comics superhero who stands up to the forces of evil showing strength, courage and her golden Lasso of Truth. This movie was a box-office smash which a record for a film about a female superhero. This one is definitely the answer to toxic masculinity and one we could watch again.

The classic feelgood movie of all time – Thelma and Louise

Susan Sarandon and Gena Davis join forces in this buddy road trip drama with a feminist philosophy which has scored it a huge audience and a cult following for many years.

It’s directed by Ridley Scott and will keep you on your toes from beginning to end – that is if you’re one of the few people left who haven’t seen it.

The emotionally hard-hitting movie – The Piano

This is one of those emotionally-charged, hard-hitting movies which will never leave you, once watched. Filmmaker, Jane Campion, delivers a love story about a mute woman whose erotic affair has life-altering repercussions. This one is a must see…

The Piano is streaming on Stan and Netflix…

Freda – an iconic film about the well-known artist

While Freda’s portrait, with her thick uni-brow, has become an iconic symbol of feminism, this movie takes us behind the canvas to reveal the artist, the activist, the revolutionary.

Selma Hayek plays Freda well and we get to really experience the life of this great artist.
