Samsung Discovery House Taking A Step Into The Future

Last week, when I was invited to the Samsung Discovery House I took a step into the future. I wasn’t sure what to expect, even if the address gave me a bit of a clue: Vaucluse.

Samsung invited ‘la crème de la crème’ in technology in this beautiful house, facing the Sydney Harbour. I have to say I was impressed by the beauty of the house and setting. So what happens when you are invited to a private house for a big event like this?

Simply by a small group – you are going from room to room (with a glass of Champagne in your hand). A Samsung product manager showing the Samsung new products of the 2014 premium range of appliances – discussing the latest washing machine or air conditioner has never been so glamorous!

“The new line-up of premium Samsung home appliances will reinvent the category and showcase to consumers what it really means to have a truly connected home.” Phil Newtown, Corporate Vice President, Samsung Electronics Australia.

In terms of products, Samsung did it big. To give you a quick list of products previewed during the event, we saw and touched – Fridges, dishwashers, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, air-conditionings, dual cook ovens and conductions plates. To talk about each product will take a lot of time but I have to admit a couple of products really deserve my attention in terms of technology and usability.

Samsung Food Showcase Refrigerator

The Samsung fridge is a premium side-by-side with an innovative and sleek design. It allows you to access frequently used items such as milk quickly using the convenient ShowCase door. With two ways to access the fridge, the food you love is always at your fingertips.

  • Two ways to access your food
  • Counter-depth design
  • All-around cooling technology – cooling air flows from multiple outlets helping to provide even cooling through the refrigerator.
  • Note there is a second fridge with four doors bringing fresh sparkling with its built-in sparkling water dispenser, powered by SodaStream TM.

Samsung 9kg Front Load Washer

It’s a machine with a sleek and minimalist design. The high-performance machine not only looks great but also features Wi-Fi compatibility and a beautiful 5-inch full-touch LCD screen.

  • Wi-Fi control (with an app on your phone telling you when your washing is finished!)
  • Speciality cycles including, gardening, kids wear & cooking with 14 wash programs.
  • The detergent containers are inside of the door and removable – very practical.

The other impressive washing machine looks like it comes from the future. Think of a washer-dryer combo with a super capacity of up to 15 kilos. For this one, you will need to live in a mansion with a massive laundry space!

“Our focus this year is to deliver premium appliances that not only look fantastic but also feature amazing advancements in appliance design. From the innovative Food Showcase Refrigerator in the kitchen to the futuristic Super Capacity Washer with WiFi capability in the laundry – we believe these products will tick all the boxes for Australian consumers”. Says Phil Newton.

We were very spoiled during this event – not to mention a super Japanese Chef preparing the most delicious sushis and the French Chef Guillaume Brahimi cooked us a delicious vegetable salad – it was indeed a beautiful evening for a beautiful event.

I had my eyes on the Samsung Motion Sync Hybrid vacuum cleaner. Alas, it wasn’t included in the goodie bag! But we had Guillaume Brahimi’s dedicated book: “Food for Friends and an Apron” – I got the message I needed to start cooking with glamorous appliances.
