If you’re after exceptional sound – and let’s face it, aren’t we all? – then the MOMENTUM 4 Wireless headphones from Sennheiser could be the right headphones for you. They bring additional flair to what was already a powerhouse audio series and they have some other handy features to boot.

But don’t forget, the MOMENTUM 4 headphones are premium headphones so you will pay a higher price for them of $579AU. But hey, if you’re after quality sound, Sony and Bose are going to be charging virtually the same prices and in the end. These headphones will last you a long time and, you’ll be glad you bought them.

Launched back in 2022, the traveller-friendly MOMENTUM 4 Wireless headphones have found a groove not only for use at home listening to music, but in busy offices, on long commutes, while doing household chores and when you’re going on long journeys. Why do people keep taking the MOMENTUM 4 headphones with them? It’s the quality of the sound which makes them an audio enthusiasts’ dream for work or play.

The Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 headphones make just about any music or audio file sound amazing.

Firstly, let’s focus on the sound of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 headphones. Whatever we played through them, I could adjust the EQ setting for however we wanted to hear them. For example, for hip hop, you can turn up the bass booster and for classical, turn the bass down and choose from the wide range of settings in the very polished Sennheiser app. This way, absolutely everything sounds amazing and you’ll never be able to go back to your old ear phones again.

The battery life of these headphones is also good lasting about 60 hours and with ANC off, this could be even longer. We found we only had to charge them every couple of weeks but if you are using them very heavily, you’ll need to charge more regularly. They’re also very comfortable and you won’t find yourself fiddling with these headphones as they just feel like they’re soft pillows around your head.

Also, another point is that as comfortable as they are, they don’t really hug your head to the point where you could do rigorous exercise or jogging so they’re not quite the headphones for a full-on gym workout.

If we’re going to nitpick, the touch sensor on the right side is very usable but sometimes fails to do what you’re trying to achieve and this can be a bit annoying at times.

How they work

These headphones deliver an effortlessly smart user experience wherever you go. With Sennheiser Signature Sound, this enables the headphones’ audiophile-inspired 42mm transducer system and aptX Adaptive. You can access the Sennheiser Smart Control App and customise the sound to your individual listening preferences with the built-in EQ, presets, sound modes and Sound Personalisation feature.

The headset’s Adaptive Noise Cancellation makes sure you won’t be distracted when you want to immerse yourself in music, and the versatile Transparency Mode lets you hear your surroundings without removing the headphones. But that’s not all. Four noise-cancelling microphones provide high-quality voice pick-up so you don’t miss a phone call – plus there’s automatic wind suppression for easier access to voice assistants (Siri and Google Assistant).

There has been a firmware update for MOMENTUM 4 which means you can control your sound experience by using extended EQ or trying Sound Personalisation – this is a great feature which helps you find your preferred listening profile and tune it at different volume levels.

The MOMENTUM 4 Wireless headphones are compatible with Bluetooth 5.2 and have a reliable connection with most devices. You also get features like Smart Pause and Auto On/Off that anticipate your needs.

Another positive point is the fact if you have one of the latest iPhones and most Android phones, you only need to carry one charger with you as it has a USBC port.

Sennheiser has recently doubled the colour choices available with two new colours of ‘denim blue’ and ‘black copper’ to go with the current matte black/charcoal and white/stone finishes. Sennheiser’s Principal Product Manager, Christian Ern says: “MOMENTUM 4 Wireless became a brand best-seller in record time thanks to stellar acoustics, marathon battery life and sound-first features—of which we have continued to incorporate post-launch.

“Our two new colorways add modern design flourishes while still retaining the sleek silhouette and world-class performance that helped make them a go-to choice for audio purists,” he added.

As with all MOMENTUM 4 Wireless models, the new styles feature the series’ renowned Adaptive Noise Cancellation technology, Bluetooth 5.2 and aptX Adaptive support – along with matching deluxe travel cases for storing the included USB and audio cables.

Smart control
The MOMENTUM 4 Wireless models give you customisation options so you can use the free Smart Control App (App Store and Google Play) for features such as high-resolution audio mode, sound personalisation, 5-band EQ, and location-based sound zones.

For a truly tailored experience, download the Sennheiser Smart Control app, that makes it easy to customize the sound using the Built-in EQ, sound modes and the new Sound Personalization feature. This assesses your listening preferences and adjusts the listening experience according to your taste.

The Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless colorways have an MSRP of $639.95 AUD and $679.95 NZD
