BBC Learning English App Review

English is one of the hardest languages to learn, and although I’m fortunate to have been born in Australia and a native speaker, I still struggle sometimes.

The BBC has created a fantastic little app to help improve your speaking. It’s split into programmes based on business English, everyday English, grammar, learn with the news (topical subjects), pronunciation and vocabulary.

Each lesson is bite-sized from around 2 to 6 minutes. The scripts are great and often light-hearted. There are also transcripts for accessibility. The lessons are rated by difficulty.

Recently I’ve listened to a diverse range of topics from unicorns, ‘to have a soft spot’ and ‘Maya Bay’. I like the English We Speak which explains the latest words and phrases. Lingohack covers the keywords and phrases that have appeared in authentic BBC World News bulletins.

There are new lessons added daily and you can follow a program, or create notifications to remind you to continue your learning.

The BBC Learning English App is perfect for anyone who wants to brush up on their English skills, or anyone who is currently learning English as a second language.

Highly recommended.

Available to download as Android or iOS.
