Cecile Manz, the award winning designer of the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay A1 speaker, says she is a huge fan of minimalism and loves small objects. And taking a close look at these blue tooth speakers, her inspired design aesthetic really shines through.
When asked what made her most proud of her designs, she said in a recent interview: “The shape itself, the flat cylinder, was quickly decided on from very early on in the process. We wanted it to feel smooth and soft in the hands since you handle it a lot. In and out of your bag, hanging loose and getting a characterful patina from being used in everyday life.”
The smooth appearance and the portability of the Beoplay A1 speaker is indeed something to behold.
Like so many Scandinavian designs, the simplicity of the A1 is a big part of its appeal. There are no sharp edges and a minimal use of materials – aluminium and polymer. Add to this the brilliance of the acoustics and you have a timeless sound piece that has up to 24 hours of playtime. There’s also a built-in microphone for making calls.
