My days don’t happen in one place. They start at my desk in Sydney, migrate to a café between meetings, and often end backstage at an event with my laptop balanced on my knees. So when Lenovo’s new Yoga Slim 7x arrived – all 1.17 kilograms of it, in an attractive shade called Cosmic Blue, the first question I asked wasn’t about specs. It was: can this laptop actually keep up with my on the go day?
The short answer is yes, and mostly without breaking a sweat.
The screen is the star
Let’s start with the thing you’ll notice before you’ve even logged in. The 14-inch 2.8K OLED display is genuinely brilliant as is the colour definition. Photos look rich, video looks cinematic thanks to Dolby Vision, and the 16:10 aspect ratio gives you more vertical room for documents and spreadsheets, which matters more than you’d think when you spend your life in a browser. Also, watching my favourite Slow Horses show on Apple was so much better on this screen than on my TV set.
Power without the heat
Under the hood is Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X2 chip with a neural processor. This is a Copilot+ PC, so there are plenty of features to make it useful for anyone like me who wants to improve work flow. And this laptop works hard with features like Live Captions (real-time captions and translation across 44 languages), and Studio Effects for better video calls. Plus Cocreator can run locally on the laptop rather than in the cloud. For anyone juggling Zoom and Team calls, and who doesn’t nowadays, it feels effortless and because it’s ARM-based, it stays cool and quiet.
Battery life that respects your schedule
The 70Wh battery is the feature I’d buy this laptop for. Rapid Charge Express gives you up to three hours of runtime from a 15-minute charge which is the difference between panic and composure when you’re dashing between a breakfast briefing and an afternoon panel.
The details women will actually appreciate
The 9.2MP camera with IR is a standout. It’s sharp enough for on-camera work, with Windows Hello face login and a physical E-shutter switch on the side that cuts power to the camera entirely. Not a sliding cover: actual peace of mind. Quad microphones with smart noise cancelling means you can take a call from a noisy café without apologising for the background. For me, this is a big bonus. And despite weighing less than a large water bottle, the aluminium chassis is tested to military durability standards, so it can survive life in a handbag, even my big heavy one.
The honest bits
No laptop is perfect. The ports are USB-C only – three of them, all USB4 – so if you live on SD cards or HDMI, budget for a dongle. And because it runs Windows on ARM, the occasional niche app or plug-in may still be temperamental, though the big names like Office, Chrome, Zoom, Photoshop all now run natively and beautifully.
One tip is to choose your configuration (up to 32GB) because the RAM is soldered, so there’s no upgrading later.
The verdict
The Yoga Slim 7x is the rare laptop that understands how women like me in business actually work: everywhere, at pace, and on camera. Stunning screen, all-day stamina, serious AI smarts and a design that’s as durable as it is elegant. If your current laptop dies at 2pm and weighs down your shoulder, this is the ideal upgrade.
